WTF??? Where the heck are they?? What is that place with the underground funky lab? I've stayed away from all spoilers or early fan sites speculating what might be going on, so I have no clue what-in-the-hay is going on. Still the best show around although i missed Invasion and heard that was good. (Anyone see Invasion?)

So... the whole 'everything happens for a reason' tag line is really coming up to play bigtime. with jack seeing that dude on the stadium steps and then finding him again down in the bunker on the island... well... that'd just be a LEEETLE too much of a coincidence. Still waiting for michelle rodriguez to show up on the other side of the island in a nicely, strategically torn tank top and ripped cargo pants... :D

on a side note, before the plane went down, why the hell wasn't jack back there talking to her??? she gave him her seat number, told him to come by. and he was still just chatting it up with the lady next to him. although he does have his demons when it comes to the ladies apparently.... they all have their demons and they sure are coming out in force on that island. well... anxiously awaiting the next what-in-the-hay moments next week!

Yeah, that was a little trippy with the Brit/Aussie guy there. What's the deal with the magnetic pull on Jack's key, too? Hmmm...

Still, I'm sure I'll be as hooked as ever.

Invasion was so-so. I didn't think it was anywhere as good as Lost, especially for a Series premiere. The acting is pretty stiff and so far, I'm only giving it a 5 out of 10. I'll watch next week to see if it gets more interesting, but so far it's about as exciting as the 'SC/Arkansas game after the first quarter. Snooooooore....

...or the original "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers" ?

So the sheriff is one of them, and the Mayor, and the priest and let's not forget naked mama who had all her clothes ripped off by the hurricane and who "smells different"...I've seen less wooden acting by broomsticks...

crap, i started looking up a lost forum and those peeps are really nuts.

SPOILERS ALERT

OK, the current fan/internet theory is that there is either some sort of time/alternate universe thingy going on, where the 'flashbacks' arent really 'flashbacks' but more like the 'real life' versions of the characters living their lives while the 'island versions' of the characters have to confront whatever it is they need to confront. case in point: the obvious attention paid to sarah saying to jack: "You smell" even after he said he had showered. was that sarah smelling "island jack" on "real world jack" because she just had a miracle? or was it signs of a brain tumor? (jack told sawyer in that headache episode that phantom smells are a sign of brain tumors) did sarah die of that? (just some stuff/ideas/theories gleaned from a lost forum board)

also, the "quarantine" was written on the INSIDE of the hatch, meaning desmond was in the 'safe' place and the island was supposed to be under quarantine. he also appeared out of nowhere running next to jack on the stadium steps. and then said two odd (well... odd given the show) things, first: i'm training for a 'round the world race, and second, when he left, "see you in another lifetime brother."

ugh, they've been answering questions with even bigger questions!!!! love it!

Jim,
Speaking of stiff broomsticks, at least the naked mama had a nice a$$ :D

Kam,
This show is one of my favs. All of the different twists they throw at it really draws you in. Hell, they didn't even touch the raft storyline, save for kid looking like he was in a running shower. Great fun!

I became addicted to this show during summer reruns, and even rented the DVDs to catch up on a couple of missed episodes before the new season started.

I spent some time on some of the Lost fan sites over the summer to read up on things that I had missed and there are definately some interesting theories out there. What I think is great is how the show is using the internet to thier advantage. There is an Oceanic Air web site, that is designed like a real airline site would be and there are lots of easter eggs in it.

Go to http://www.oceanic-air.com. At the bottom of the screen where it says Travellers. Put in the following numbers (do I need to tell you what they are?) 4 8 15 16 23 42. The screen will take you to the plane's seating plan. (Notice that there is an arrival time at LAX for this flight  ). Once the seating plan has loaded. Click on the seat rows in the same numerical order, 4 8 15 16 23 42. You'll get to see a trailer for the second season. This was obviously done at the end of season one to build suspense for season two. But it's neat to see anyway.

If you highlight the "Important message" on the home page, there is also a hidden message there. In fact there's all sorts of wierd and interesting stuff on this site. I can't remember the site name, but there is also a fake web site for Charlies band which provides some interesting stuff about Charlie and some links to information about other characters. I think that it's brilliant how the show's creaters have build this whole internet sub culture also.

Edit: Here's the Driveshaft link if anyone cares. http://www.driveshaftband.com/

check out the second row, flight 572... creepy.

http://www.oceanic-air.com/trackresults.htm

the theories floating around on the lost message boards off of the abd site are pretty nuts but kinda cool. there also a code you can put into one of the lost home pages (trying to find it) where they show you a 'lost' script page from lost. the code is, of course: theislandiswaiting.

and apparently i didnt catch this, not having supervision, but that 'dharma' symbol (the feng shui looking thing) that was seen all over the bunker, was also ON the shark. there are screen captures online that show the symbol actually printed/tatooed? on the shark.

weird..... BUT I LOVE IT!

Also, on the oceanicair front page, if you highlight that entire section from the yellow flag: Important Announcement: All Flights Cancelled and highlight it from "Important announcements...." down to "...travel arrangements." and then copy it and paste it into a word document, you'll see some messages AND a very strange drawing of nyc and someone in a hospital? bed all bandaged up holding a birthday cake...

(update: ok just found out the drawings are walt's drawings, and the bandaged dude pic is teh drawing walk gave to michael when he was banged up, i think).

VERY weird!

I couldn't get the picture to come up, but I did read the two distress messages. What's the deal with the ETHAN ROM word puzzle when you click Pre Board Check in? Any clues?

Edit:

Never mind, I figured it out. Move the letters to spell Other Man. I don't understand the clip tho

I noticed the flight 572 info this afternoon but didn't want to give everything away. I'm glad you noticed it Kam.

I found the ethan rom puzzle today as well, but didn't have time to figure it out. I'll have to go back and check it out now that I know the solution.

Regarding the "theislandiswaiting" thing. Where do you type it in? I was trying to figure it out earlier, but couldn't get it to work.

I love this kind of stuff. These Lost producers totally know what they're doing to get us hooked. :D

Here's another hint. When you're in the seating plan on the Oceanic Air site, click on random seats. Sometimes when you click on one seat another seat will turn green. Click on the green seat for more hidden stuff.

Here's the link for a great Lost discussion board. http://p073.ezboard.com/blosttheunofficalforumfortheabcseries

Okay, not to turn this into a Lost discussion board, but this is SO cool.

I did the Ethan Rom/Other Man thing. After the clip it went back to the seating plan. I noticed that at the bottom of the screen where it said "Economy Class 11 - 42", there was a flashing "F" after the 42. So I clicked on it. Then seat 42F turned green. I clicked on it and it had the name Ana-Lucia. When I clicked on it the whole plane started to vibrate like it was crashing and there was a clip of the crash.

I also noticed that the Pre-Board Check in button is gone.

Who is Ana-Lucia?

Very bizarre.

that's michelle rodriguez's character that has that drink with jack before he boards the plane and tells him she's in 42F (back of the plane). we see her for a second in the trailer for this coming weeks episode when sawyer and jin and michael are thrown in the bamboo pit, she's already there.

have also heard/read that the "Are you him?" line from desmond was a reference to hurley or at least the guy who hurley knew at the psych ward that was constantly saying the numbers over and over again. also saw TONS of references to the numbers throughout the show and the 108 we see after locke plugs the numbers in as ordered by desmond is, of course, the sum of all 'the numbers' put together. and another weird thing, the stuffed toy polar bear that michael gives to walt when he says goodbye to him ADDED to the polar bear in the comic book that walt sees and... presto... there's a polar bear on the island. makes me think of that twilight zone episode... or ghostbusters... think of what you're afraid of, and it'll be there. the island's 'defense mechanism' might be a part of that.

verrrrrry interrrresting!
:D

If Ana-Lucia is already in the pit, maybe Rose's husband will be there too. She's been very insistant that he's not dead.

I missed the polar bear that Mike gave to Walt. Good for you, picking up on that.

Okay, I'm now officially bordering on obsession  .

am curious if the main 'leads' were all in the seat numbers on the plane that correspond to "the numbers" i.e. was jack in seat 4, kate in 16, etc?

i read somewhere that since the dharma symbol is basically the fengu shui symbol, with the yin/yang stripe in the middle of it, that the symbol shown corresponds to what is happening to the people. i.e. the shark had the stripe connecting the sections of the fengu shui symbol dealing with family and health (i think, something like that at least), and that part of the episode dealt with Walt and him trying to deal with his son, etc.

also, why didn't desmond recognize jack?? i can't remember now, but i know jack recognized desmond, but desmond had no clue who jack was, in spite of having met him. UNLESS the whole clone theory is what's going on and the "island desmond" is not the same as the "real world desmond". ugh... so confusing.... so awesome!

is it wed yet???

I wouldn't have hit the button. Nope. I think it's an experiment to see how much someone can play with your mind (kind of like the show is doing to us).

I have but one question, and it has to do with next week's episode:

JIN SPEAKS ENGLISH?!?

Yeah, what's up with that? He even seems to have a "Hoity Toity" accent.

The whole experiment thing is interesting. Seems like the other passengers on the other side of the Island have gone more animal like where it's survival of the fittest. on the other hand, the passengers we have been watching have been more civilized. It's is starting to look like they were all picked for a reason and "put" on that island to be watched.

The Canadian preview didn't have Jin talking. Instead it was Rose in the pod asking what the beeping sound was. And 'the others' trying to get Sawyer to come out of the pit, but he won't do it "until I know that my friends are safe". But, regarding Jin, I was on the Lost discussion board last night and there are varying theories, the predominant of which is that it will be part of a dream sequence and not real. The writers seem to like to screw with our minds like that. For example, last week I thought the preview made it look like there was some sort of gas leaking into the pod with Desmond screaming "what have you done, we're all going to die!". This made sense to me since the Quarantine sign was on the inside of the pod, that there would be something dangerous that you would want to keep out. This week we found out that it was just smoke from the computer.

For what it's worth, I'd like to think that I wouldn't have pushed the button, but the reality is that I probably would have. What a terrible existence to have to live for the sole sake of pushing a button every 108 minutes. That's 13 times a day. Three years is 1,095 days. Desmond pushed that button over 14,000 times! No wonder he ran away the first chance that he had.

And...how much food would they have had to start with for there to still be all that stuff left in the panty. Demond was in there for three years! That's over 3,000 meals. And we don't know how long there were people in there before him...presumably since the 1970's.

Edit: Here's an observation that I forgot to mention. Desmond says that he pushes the button to save the world. But, nowhere in the orientation film does it say WHY they have to push the button. And, what's the significance of doing it for 540 days. What a strange number of days.

So many answers given last night, yet so many new questions raised. What a twist!!!

Kam

OK, just saw the tape of this last night (went to a screening of Good Night and Good Luck on wed so had to miss it) and was trying not to read the message boards at all till i saw it. So.... new twists all over.

I think the "sickness" that desmond was referring to has something to do with the electromagnetism issue. because apparently one side of the island is effected in quite a different way as the other side. "the others" seem to have evolved in quite a different manner over the past 44 days than these guys.

ok, another big question... the french woman said when you see the black smoke, 'the others' will come for the boy, just as they took her boy. but she's been there longer than 44 days... so the french woman was on the island before "the others" of this oceanicair flight crashed, therefore which "the others" was she talking about? 'the others' from her own crash land? were the french woman's "the others" the guys in the boat? are there multiple groups of "the others" just as there are multiple groups on jack's side of the island? is Ethan Rom part of the french woman's others, or an entirely different set of others? He wasnt on the passenger manifest. was he in the hatch before desmond? trying to remember his outfit, and it didnt scream out any specific timeframe, looked like a dude dressed from our time.

does the island pull people to one side or the other and then change one side? the whole tagline of the season has been "everything happens for a reason" so that seems to say so. the group we've been following was pulled to X side of the island, while the group in the rear of the plane was pulled to Y side of the island. which then also begs the question, as to were they 'influenced' somehow before they even got on to the plane as to which end of the plane they were going to sit in. there's more to it (i think) than meets the eye (duh, that's a shocker of a statement) as it seems the island pulls people to it. it defn pulled both desmond and jack there, and that's a very weird coincidence to be a coincidence.... (like michael giving walt a polar bear teddy bear and walt reading the comic book with a polar bear in it?) everything happens for a reason, right?

and does anyone know numerology? what's the impact of the 108 minutes? (read on another board it takes a sattelite 108 minutes for its orbit, is that right? damn that's a fast sattelite cruising up there) and i guess now it's been 45 days? so after being on the island for 44 days, the two halves of the plane touch base again, is that number significant? locke says they've been there for 44 days that night, and that was the night they first meet the others on the boat when they take walt's kid, right?

and didnt walt's ghost/apparition/form that shannon saw say "dont push the button" "the button is bad"? what's that all about? is the entire island under magnetic quarantine? the whole numbers and 108 minutes deal has got to be some sort of mathematical issue with its weird, seemingly arbitrary preciceness.

or.... poles can switch, right? so maybe "the others" are thinking of the group we've been watching as "the others." and maybe the french woman was part of "the others" from her expedition... although am just rambling here, odds are side X is the "goods' side" and side Y is "the others' " side and it doesnt keep switching back and forth... or... does it???? what did desmond say after he crash landed on the island ("crashed" or the island pulled him in?) i cant recall the name of the guy he said told him to go down to the bunker. was it the same guy that he said was his buddy down there helping him out till he died (how did he die?).

crazyness!!!! dying for some answers... hell am dying for ONE answer!!!! hehehe.

love it.

Oh my, you're full of questions, aren't you? ;)

4 + 8 + 15 + 16 + 23 + 42 = 108. I don't know the significance of that, but there it is anyway. You know what's really sad? I have those numbers memorized. I wonder how many people are now playing those as their lottery numbers? Wouldn't it be wild if they really came up in a lottery somewhere? :D Anyway, I wonder if Jack had pushed the button with 32 in there if the clock would have simply reset at 98 instead of 108.

Danielle (the French woman) also said that the rest of her group got sick and died. Our castaways think that she killed them all (but I can't remember why they ended up thinking that). But, maybe they died from some sort of island illness. What the heck was Desmond injecting himself with in episode one? Whatever it was, he took vials of it with him when he left the pod. Some sort of antibody?

I think that there are three groups (at least) on the island. Danielle's Others, which Ethan belonged to. Our castaway group from the middle of the plane and a group from the tail end of the plane. Danielle has met with both groups and talked about "the others", so that each Plane group will initially think of the other group as a danger, until everyone realises who each other are and, I suspect, will band together...or not.

I also think that the big black guy that we see guarding the pit is Rose's husband. She keeps insisting that he's alive. He was in the back of the plane during the crash and we know from Ana-Lucia's presence that the people in the back of the plane survived

I hadn't thought about Ethan being in the hatch, but I guess that's a possibility (heck! Everything's a possibility!). His clothing, if I remember correctly, was a plaid short sleeved shirt and brown pants. His clothes certainly didn't look like he'd been wearing them on an island for many years. They were in pretty good condition, which begs the question...why? Maybe he found them in a suitcase from the crash...otherwise, why weren't they torn and dirty like they should have been if he'd been living there for years as part of "the others".

I can't remember what Walt's ghost said. I wish that I'd been paying more attention.

I did go back and watch the orientation tape a couple of more times looking for clues. But couldn't find anything. However, you just know that there's going to be something significant coming out of that. It does look like the end of the tape was edited when the narrator says "don't use the computer for anything...". There should be more to that sentence. It's been cut off.

Oh, and the name of the guy who pulled Desmond into the hole was Kelvin or Calvin.

You know, I've never wanted to buy a TV show on DVD, but I'm getting very, very close to buying season one of Lost so that I can go back and look for clues. This show is killing me! (but in a good way).

Based on the orientation video, there are six Dharma stations. They are in number three which is identified by the swan. Presumably, the other stations would have a different mark.

The big question is...are the other stations on the island??????

are they in station three? i remember him saying three, but everytime he did, there was a scratch at the end, as if he was going to add another number? but does that make sense? would he say "station three two" instead of "station thirty two"? i definitely get the feeling that NOTHING is a throwaway on the show and if they're cutting him short or putting in a splice RIGHT after he says station three each time, its for a reason. ALSO the whole thing he says NOT to do with the computer that gets jumbled/cut off. that's obviously important. all those places with the jumpcuts in them, wonder if they are actually cut out, or if that's how the full reel looks.

yeah, and how big is this island? they went to the top of it, i thought, when sayid was transmitting. so they must've seen all around, right? i.e. water on all side? or... OR... OR are they on a peninsula? i bet they've been on florida the ENTIRE TIME!!! ok, mind going early in the day.

are there two 'monsters' on the island that are the security measures? i swore in the first episodes the "monster" sounded exactly like a t-rex (at least how the trex's in jurassic park sounded). yet the "monster" that was pulling locke down the hole sounded entirely mechanical. so "monster 1" kills the pilot, chases them, might be organic, while "monster 2" is a whisp of smoke, mechanical, machine? and didn't locke see monster1? i thought there was a shot from the monster1 pov as locke was looking up at him/her/it early on in season 1. you're right autumn, am a few minutes away from getting lost season 1 myself, (and its available for almost half price on deepdiscountdvd, a great site to buy dvd's if you havent seen it before).

At the beginning of the Orientation video, the text also says "Station 3 of 6. The Swan." or something like that. I'd have to go back to my tape to for the exact wording. But I don't think that it's 3-something.

What if it was Desmond trying to pull Locke into the hole??? That was when they were carrying the dynamite to blow off the door, so they had to be near the hatch, right? Maybe the hole led to the pod (or whatever you want to call it). Locke was so certain that whatever was pulling on him wasn't going to hurt him and that it was "his destiny". So, if it really was his destiny...he's found it...finding Desmond and pushing the button.

Thanks for the tip on deepdiscountdvd. I'll check it out. Although, I'm in Toronto, so with currency exchange and shipping to Canada, it usually isn't worth it for me to order from US sites.

yeah, you're right, looking too deep into everything now. it was station 3 of 6.

i definitely think locke was being pulled down a hole that led to the bunker. by what though, who knows. but i dont think it was desmond. he seemed too surprised at seeing everyone, which is strange, seeing as he has those mirror things set up to see all the hatches that lead out, so he knows SOMETHING is out there. and towards the end of season one, after locke yelled at the hatch, "ive done everything you asked of me" the thing lights up, just like it did before kate was taken.

ugh, i have a feeling i could watch all of season one straight through... and then straight through again if it has commentary on it! ugh!

i thought they were shaping up locke and jack to be opposites (jacks line to kate, "if we get through this, we're gonna have a locke problem") and perhaps split the island as the two sides of the yin-yang, but they might be closer to each other in thought then i first thought and the split is, i guess, between whoever leads the others (rose's husband?) and jack, and then whoever the 'locke' is over with the others, which looks like it will be ana-lucia, and locke. i think ana-lucia is their version of locke.

I can't find Lost on deepdiscountdvd.

it's on the home page, the bestseller list, ranked #3.

here's a direct link if it comes through:
http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=BVD039661

also ebay is a good place to check, but i've been finding any reputable seller's price will be around the same if not more than deep discount. (i try not to buy from overseas cuz i dont like the funky packaging and no recourse against the seller really).

alright.... so 42 (was it 42 or 44?) on one side of the island... 23 on the other side of the island... but of the 23, it seemed like only 5 remained. ana-lucia, rose's husband, the big black guy, and the blonde girl. and there was a fifth that greeted them who it looked like was a pregnant female? so this side of the island has been wiped out by "the others" and maybe 'the sickness' and that's why they're so crazy defensive around sawyer/mike/jin.

weirdness!!!!! i was jumping out of my skin waiting for answers! and the whole hugo back sstory with the food tie in was just so brilliantly written i thought. ya just cant beat good writing. :)

This was the "warm and fuzzy" episode to me. It was definitely cool how they gave more background info on Hurley (His name is Hugo Hurley??? His parents should be shot!) as he has become one of my favorite characters. There didn't seem to be as many plot twists in this episode as in the past. Lots of relationships seem to be forming, which I'm not crazy about but I guess it would be inevitable stranded on a island.

His name isn't actually Hurley. Hurley is a nickname. He said so during Season one. Can't remember his last name, but his parents weren't that cruel. ;)

Interesting observation on the numbers Kam. 4 8 15 16 23 42.

42 original survivors (I think that they originally counted 43, but one of those was Ethan, who we now know wasn't a survivor....but we don't know who he really was...doo doo dooo)
23 surviving tailenders
I bet that we find out that there are actually 8 tailenders, or...one more dies so that we end up with only 4.

This episode bored me. I think that it was the weakest episode yet. All that excitement last week over Jin speaking English and it turns out to be Hurley's dream. Booooooo!! Bad writers.

Any thoughts on the cement block? Here's mine. The comment (Jack? Sayid?) made about Chernobyl makes me think that there's something radioactive on the island. The cement block is an attempt at covering it. The sickness is radiation poisioning. The crap that Desmond was shooting up with is some sort of protection for it (iodine maybe). The 18 or so tailenders that are dead (there were 23 of us  ), died from radiation. Although, they've only been on the island for 45 days or something like that. Kind of quick for that many people to die from radiation unless it was a very high exposure. But then why would the 5 or so survivors not show any signs of illness. Ana-Lucia still has a pretty nice head of hair, so I'm probably wrong about that one.

I did find it interesting to see that the tailenders were in another bunker. I didn't notice if there were any Dharma markings in it. I'm sure that there were and I just missed them. But here's another question. Why did they have a big hole with a gated top in the first place???? That was a big hole. It would have taken a long time to dig. Especially since they, presumably, have no tools and would have had to dig by hand. And why was it so far from their bunker? Maybe it was already there. But WHY?!

Stupid writer award goes to the guy that wrote the scene where the store owner recognizes Hurley as the lottery winner. I worked in a convenience store and sold lottery tickets for five years during high school and university. There is absolutely no way that you could possibly recognize and remember who played what numbers. NO WAY!

i thought when ana lucia knocked on the bunker door there was a dharma symbol but with a straight arrow instead of the swan. this might be bunker #2, and the frenchwoman had found bunker#3, which may mean that all 6 bunkers are on the island. i definitely think it was the others that killed off the tailenders and that's what's made ana lucia and company so paranoid and defensive. a lot has to happen in 45 days to turn that hard, and i would imagine losing 18 of your fellow passengers to the others would do that. that pit may have been made by the other's and used against the tailenders, who knows. looks like we'll find out soon when they actually face them (i think) next week.

although the cement to stop radiation makes sense and coulda been a radioactive leak, i dont think that explains the polarity issue and the magnetism. i think the cement was poured to cover 'the incident' the guy refers to in the training video, and that incident is something with all this mumbo-jumbo going on. i.e. both technical with the input of the #'s and something spiritual, ala walt's psychic ability, rose's psychic (or maybe just faith?) ability, locke being able to walk again, locke's faith, the whisp of smoke / trex defense mechanism. maybe even another dimension is being held back. that they poured the cement to block a wormhole? ok that sounds kinda ludicrous but then again there's an ancient seaship stuck at the top of the island too, how in the heck did that get there! the black rock.

i was wondering about the guy recognizing him and am hoping that it wasnt just a device the writers needed to 'reveal' hurley as the winner infront of his friend. am hoping there is a reason behind the recognition, as 'everything happens for a reason'. and generally the writers havent given any 'throwaways' yet, but every little thing has an issue behind it. i think this was the eye we just passed through and now a whole storm of questions are gonna fly our way!!!!

If I spend the next X number of years (4? 8? 15? 16? etc. hehehehe) watching this show to find out that everything is some spiritual paranormal mumbo jumbo that can't ever really be explained, I'm gonna be really pissed!

I want empirical answers to the looming questions. I don't need the answers right now, but when they come they had better be scientific and not some unexplained phenomenon.

They might as well have one of the characters wake up from a deep sleep where it was all a dream.

You're right. My radiation theory doesn't really make sense. I'm going to have to go back to my video tape to see whether I can make out the sign on the bunker door. If I can make it out, I'll let you know. Otherwise...see you next Thursday! :D

ahhhhhhhhhhh bollocks! three weeks now?? so now the speculation runs rampant on who's gonna die, i have narrowed it down to the two i think are gonna go, and heavily leaning towards one more than the other, but dont want to speculate too much and ruin the surprise, even though i'm pretty sure i'm still wrong.

did anyone count how many of the others walked by jin and the other dude? i want to say 8 but i'm not positive. (8 also cuz its one of "the numbers"). am guessing the kid with the teddy bear is the french woman's son that the other's took way back when.

preview for the new episode: Why is walt's ghost/apparition/psychic self always appearing just to shannon apparently, and why is he soaked in goo or really sticky water? it's like (not to be too disgusting) but he's got some sort of amniotic fluid all over him.

and the backstory to jin/sun is awesome. i think what really just nails this show out of the water is how each backstory is just so damn good. i cant think of a weak backstory for any of the leads. am waiting for ana-lucia's backstory now where we learn why she's turned out this way.

also...the only irritating thing now is the whole idiot principle. michael has been acting like an idiot and not asking the questions he should be asking.

he wants walt? given. he'll do anything to get him back? given. now he's alone with the friendliest of the tailenders and he doesn't ask her a SINGLE question about what's going on??? "We have trust issues," she says. "Huh, how about that," (or something) he replies. What?????? he should be jumping all over her getting answers to the others and what happenned to them and how he can get walt back. but that's what he comes up with? that was irritating. but i still love the show.

they just better not kill off locke.

she was up for playing kitty pryde in the next xmen movie, but she couldnt because of conflicts with lost, and supposedly the producers said if she took the job, they'd have to kill off shannon from lost... and she was in The Fog, so if she's trying the jump from tv to movies, they might have to take her out. from a purely technical standpoint, but i think the writers already have in mind who's gonna be alive and dead by the end of season 2.

If you were in a Colin Ferrell vehicle as bad as SWAT, you'd turn out that way too :p.

I'd swear that when The Others were walking by, they had a group walk by twice. The clean shaven legs of a girl definitely went by twice and it looked like the same pair of gams, therefore it's hard to tell how many are there.

This episode didn't really give any answers or pose any new questions, although I do agree the Jin/Sun story was very cool. I would have been more upset about the 3 week sabbatical if there was some cliff hanger involved. Which is not to say I'm a happy camper about the delay!

BTW, there is no way Locke is killed. He's one of, if not the most popular characters on the show.

When the hotel owner was giving him shyt for letting that poor little boy use the bathroom, I was saying "walk away Jin, walk away", and then he did! I LOVE a man with pride!

A kind of uneventful episode I think. There were no previews for the next episode in Canada. I don't know why the Canadian previews are always different (or in this week's case...non-existant) than the US ones, but I didn't know that anyone died until I went onto the ABC discussion board this morning. The buzz over there is that it's Shannon.

My beef with this week's episode was Jin's English. I understand that he's probably learning just from being around everyone else speaking English, but he just seemed to understand a little to much from Mr. Echo, who also had a heavy accent which would make it even harder for someone just learning to understand.

And what was with Kate's need to see the bottle and rummage through the notes? What was she looking for? It seemed like whatever it was, she found it. Her mood changed rather quickly. I think that she palmed one the messages when Sun was distracted by finding her ring. But who's? And why?

There's a definate change in format this season, so far. Last season had all of the characters in every episode. This season, each episode has really focused on a smaller group of characters and some aren't in it at all. Charlie, Claire, Shannon weren't in the first couple. Jack, Charlie and Hurley weren't in this one at all (maybe because they're busy pushing buttons) and Claire and Locke were only in it for a minute. So far, for me, last season's format was more enjoyable. I'm finding this season a little slow moving. Still wonderful! But slow.

Here's something interesting that I learned this morning. I can't find where I saw it or I would post the link. There was a screen shot of the plane after the crash and you could see what looked like a faded out Dharma symbol on the side of the plane.

What the hell am I supposed to do for the next two Wednesdays?!!!!

Rewatch season one. Yeah, that's the ticket. :D

ooooo if you find that link, post it! want to see if that dharma symbol was on the plane!!! the previews here said the same hyping up the episode as usual: "this will be the episode everyone will talk about for the next ten centuries" type thing. they said, i think, one of these lost sruvivors won't make it (and then showed shots of everyone). there's a shot of sawyer going down as they trudge through the island, succombing to whatever illness hits him and then, shannon and sayid making out, and then walt appearing to shannon, shannon asking if anyone else can see him, and then walt leading shannon (and sayid and others) through the jungle.

i think kate was looking to see if sawyer wrote anything in there, although why he would, when he was taking the bottle himself, i dont know. unless she wanted to see what jack wrote.

the jin/sun story was one of my favs from season one, especially how they did it, revealing sun's side first and making you think jin is some monster, and then revealing his and seeing how far off that perception was.

What chick in orange?

Someone on the ABC site made a comment about the American woman that Sun's match-made date was going to marry. I bet that we find out that he's married to someone on the island, or someone related to someone on the island. Wouldn't that be spooky?

Do you remember the scene, a couple of eps ago, after the raft blew up, when Sawyer was swimming from one piece of the raft to another and the shark was lurking around under the water? There was definately a Dharma sign on the sharks tail. Screen prints of it were on one of the discussion boards. But that board has since become available to paying customers only, and I'm not THAT dedicated.

I'm going to try to find that picture of the plane. I just saw it this morning, so it can't be that hard to find.

i was trying to watch everyone in the hotel, waiting to see if there was going to be another connection, but i think you may be right, that sun's 'date' is engaged or hooked up with someone else on the island, that'd be awesome!

Yeah, but I was hoping he would tell the boss to "go screw himself" before walking away, instead of "thank you for the opportunity."

The boss has to be the hotel general manager or whatever, not the owner. I think he would find the role of a working stiff to be beneath him if he were the owner, but I could be wrong.

Sawyer's message I bet. Kate mentioned "not saying goodbye" (when the raft was leaving ?). Throughout the series there has been this unspoken "love-hate" relationship between them. He's the logical choice.

That's certainly what I would have said. But Jin has too much class.

I think you're right. An owner wouldn't be hiring a doorman. Besides wasn't Sun's date the son of the hotel owner? I'll bet that boss came from a fishing village too and now he thinks he's risen above his upbringing. Maybe we'll see him get eaten by a polar bear in a future episode. I sure hope so!

Maybe. But, if so, I don't think it's because of any romantic notions. My guess is that she snagged his note because they are both very private people and she understands that he wouldn't want anyone else to see it. She wants to return it to him. I think that there's a mutual respect for each other's secret past.

i thought she figured sawyer had left a note for her specifically. unless she was looking for Jack's note. because why would sawyer put a note in the bottle to carry with them to... the place where he himself is going? he could deliver whatever message he wanted to because he'd be there. the notes were from the people NOT going. i figured she either thought sawyer put a msg in there specifically for her, or she was looking for jack's note to see what he wrote or WHO he wrote to.

Why would Sawyer put a note in the bottle for Kate? I think that they were hoping that the bottle would get to someone that's not on the island. Looking for Jack's note makes more sense to me than that. But I'm pretty sure that I remember Sawyer putting a note in the bottle, even though he was carrying the bottle.

See? This is why I need to buy season one!

I think that I still have the orientation video on tape. But I don't have the episode where Walt is kidnapped. So I can't compare. Do you think that The Other 48 Days will start to tell the story about the tail-enders? What happened to the rest of the 23 survivors? There's got to be some interesting story-telling waiting to happen. Also, that would be a good way for the writer's to fill season two.

I haven't seen the episode where Boone died. I'll have to rent (or buy) the DVD. I just wish that season one wasn't so damn expensive.

am guessing it's a combination of The Others and The Sickness that desmond mentioned that wiped out the tailenders. this would make sense as to why they are so paranoid when sawyer and co show up, thinking that they are either The Others, OR they are Infected with The Sickness and hence their "we have trust issues."

dont want to ruin the episode for you, but in a nutshell, boone gets on a radio in a plane they find crashed in the trees in a remote part of the island that boone and locke find, in a strange place too, because when they came close to it, locke's legs started giving out. now that i think of it... i have to get season one to watch this episode again, i think there are some major clues here. well anywho, boone climbs up, gets on the radio and mayday's for help, he says, we are the survivors or the oceanic flight ?, and he hears crackling back, "but WE are the survivors of oceanic flight...". was a nice chilling moment. also makes sense if its some magnetic/polar thing, since the plane crashed at that area and it effected locke. great.... more ??????????

also... i had to tear my eyes away, but found screenshots for the new episode coming up AND found the next several episode titles (beyond just the next two) AND who is starring in them... ugh. so tempted to go back and look!

While my American friends are telling me that Lost is taking a two week break, my local TV Guide is showing a new episode on Wednesday night. I'm sure that it's probably wrong, but I'll tape it just in case.

You guys should have seen the episode that they showed on the Canadian channel! It's unbelievable!

So, first Kate goes into this big hatch in the ground while Locke stays up top to hold the rope. Then she screams that she thinks there's something in there and then this bright light comes out of the hole that she's in. Then, when the light goes away, she's gone. So, of course, Locke has to follow her. They meet up down in this bunker type thingy and run into some guy names Desmond....

In the meantime, Michael and Sawyer are stuck on the pieces of the blown up raft. Sawyer has been shot and Michael's son has just been kidnapped by, what appears to be, pirates....

Sound familiar? It should. They reran episode one. Bastards!

Hey Kam, thanks for the synopsis of the Boone dying episode. It's one that I've been wanting to see. I just have to make a decision, one way or the other, whether to buy season one or just rent the episodes that I'm still missing.

Maybe if I wait until Christmas, it'll show up under the tree. :)

LOL! I'm sure you're right. :D

btw... i guess other's have prolly realized this... but they were on Oceanic Flight 815.... "8" "15"

when i noticed the date thing of the two weds in november, the 8,15 and 16, 23 dates, both pairs always fall on the same days. with the 4 and 42 being the odd numbers. some have said they could be lattitude/ longitude coordinates, but that doesnt seem to fit in with the 'dharma' theme. for some reason am drawn to a calendar reason, but that might be cuz i just noticed those 2 wed's in november.....

i defn feel an SAT problem, or mensa problem in there, what relates those numbers to each other.... and the 108... you do realize if you take 23 (tail enders) and 42 (front enders) together, thats 65... and subtract that from 108 is 43.... which.. doesnt mean anything?

update: great, more ??? killing myself here. the book desmond takes with him when he runs out of the bunker is The Lost Policeman, and here's the synopsis from amazon:

A comic trip through hell in Ireland, as told by a murderer, The Third Policeman is another inspired bit of confusing and comic lunacy from the warped imagination and lovably demented pen of Flann O'Brien, author of At Swim-Two-Birds. There's even a small chance you'll figure out what's going on if you read the publisher's note that appears on the last page.--This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Book Description
Fiction. The last of O'Brien's novels to be published and now reissued by Dalkey Archive, THE THIRD POLICEMAN is Flann O'Brien's brilliant comic novel about the nature of time, death, and existence. Told by a narrator who has committed a botche d robbery and brutal murder, the novel follows him and his adventures in a two-dimensional police station where he is intruduced to "Atomic Theory" and its relation to bicycles, the existence of eternity (which turns out to be just down the road), and the view that the earth is not round but "sausage-shaped."

Do you guys get the Lost Island Insider newsletter emailed to you? If not, PM me your email address and I'll forward the one that I received today. It's sent out by the writers of Lost, and it has some interesting information (one spoiler that you already know about...death of a main character...but doesn't say who) about the rest of Season Two.

I'm very intrigued (like I wasn't before :D ).

GM,

Lost is a Top 5 Show and leads the coveted 18-45 demo with males. I'd say it has enough appeal to stick around :).

BTW, Desperate housewives leads the 18-45 female demo. Considering they keep find new ways every week to put Eva Longoria in lingerie, I'm surprised they don't own the male demo as well!

HAHAHAHAHA I saw a show the other day about the 50+ viewers not counting. Along the way they mentioned some show that was rated something like 75th but could charge more for commercial slots (because the average viewer's age is 22) than some top 10 shows that appeal to an "older crowd." Lost was one of the examples.
I didn't know how true any of it was. But it seemed stupid enough to be true, and it gave me a chance to throw it out here.

Eva is HOT. I must admit, I watch just to see what she'll have on (or not have on) next.

on a related note, i actually caught the date phoneline infomercial that evangeline lilly did prior to landing Lost... she looked quite fetching. and now The Others... wonder if there's gonna be a ridiculous hottie amongst them....who also is sick in the mind, kills people, kidnaps kids, and wreaks havoc on some mysterious experiment of an island... now that's my kinda girl.

Eva spent a year or two on The Young and The Restless before landing on DH.

....and yes, she was just as beautiful (and just as desperate) on that show.

See, I find Evengeline to be much more attractive than Eva. Eva is beautiful, don't get me wrong, but I prefer the more natural, athletic, wholesome look. The same with my men. I'll take an athletic, fit man over a pretty-boy underwear model, anyday.

But we digress....THREE MORE HOURS! Can't wait to see who kicks it. My money is still on Hurley.

Disappointingly predictable death. At least it wasn't Sawyer. He's my Eva Longoria. ;)

The first time Walt appeared, at the beginning of the show, it actually sent shivers through me and made the hair on my arms stand up. Brilliant.

Here's my new theory on The Others. They haven't killed anyone. They have kidnapped the Tailies and brainwashed them to turn them into Others. Perhaps as part of a Dharma experiment? I decided this when Mr. Echo told his fellow tailies that they saw Others, and one of the women asked, "did you see the children?". It appeared, to me, that she was inquiring about her own children. Since they took Walt (or so we are to believe), why wouldn't they have taken other children also if they survived the crash. I think that eventually, all of the former Tailies will show-up the same way Walt has. I love how Walt tried to warn Shannon to be quiet and the big-mouth just couldn't do it. So much for whispers. hehehe.

What did they show on the U.S. preview for next week? The Canadian one alluded to The Others finding the Tailies. Ana-Lucia finds a list. Her fellow Tailies ask her what its a list of and she says, "us".

i knew it'd be shannon! the second she showed up in The Fog i figured she's gonna start making movies and so needs to get killed off the island, they said the same thing when she was up for kitty pryde in Xmen3 (that the writers would kill her off if she took the role because of conflicts) so i figured it'd be her.

the preview here said they're going all the way back to the beginning from the plane split to tell the story of he Tailies. they showed shots of everyone looking haggard (surprise) and people being dragged off as they tell the tale of the tailies.

back to the episode.... when the tailies are done pulling sawyer up to that landing, and they all look around and one of them is missing, it's because the others somehow took her. then they ALL hear that strange whispering and ana-lucia yells to run... meaning the others are coming. now it makes sense that The Others are preceeded or reveal themselves by this strange whispering as thats what sayid heard (side note, kudos to sayid for nailin' shannon! score one for the brown dudes!) when he was on his way back from the french womens place as well. now when sayid and shannon were looking for walt they heard that same whispering to signify The Others again right? so then either Walt himself is one of the Others (which gels with your theory), or there were Others around right when ana-lucia shot shannon?

it most definitely feels like an experiment, but... almost as if there are multiple experiments on the island, as Desmond down in the bunker didnt seem that he knew about the Others, or at least the ones on the boat that took Walt? but the two sides of the island have had VERRRRY different experiences... kinda like someone is playing god and seeing what stimulus/response gets what... or maybe its darwin reincarnated arguing nature vs. nurture in a real life experiment... alrighty then, a whole bunch more questions... lovely.

"They're coming and they're close" is what walt said to shannon (found this on a lost msg board), albeit backwards and through a mouthful of water. does anyone know symbols and stuff? what that means, drenched in water or water coming out of the mouth? if it has any meaning, which i am thinking it does.

but.. was he warning her about the tailies coming, or The Others coming...

The first time Walt appeared, at the beginning of the show, it actually sent shivers through me and made the hair on my arms stand up. Brilliant.I was the same way! I even showed my wife the goosebumps on my arm! Walt is supposed to have some form of clairvoyance, right? I guessing he's using that to project his image and messages to Shannon (why do they always kill off the hot ones first ?!) As for why he's wet, at first I thought it was because he had drowned, but now I'm thinking it's some part of the experiment where they brainwash him. Who knows?

Is it me, or is the the Driveshaft dude's possessiveness over the baby a little on the creepy side? I have a feeling we're going to see some abandonment issues come up from his past.

Great episode, especially after the last one was kinda boring. Can't wait to see what happens to the tailies next week!

I've been wondering that myself. Is there some significance, like Kam thinks? Or, is it just a red herring to drive us all mad?

I agree that the whispering is a tell-tale sign that The Others are near. But if that's the case, why haven't they ever showed themselves to the Fusies? Certainly several of our Fusie friends have heard them, not just Sayid. Maybe there was no reason to show themselves yet when they still had some good pickins on the other side of the island. I was surprised when Ana-Lucia said that they came and took a few (three? five? I don't remember) people and then came back and took NINE!!!! There must have been a lot of Others to take away nine unwilling people at one time.

Think back to the Orientation video. They did list a bunch of different things that the Hanso Institute (or whatever it was called) were experimenting on. We know now that there are at least two Dharma stations on the island. The Swan, where some of our gang are now pushing a button every 108 minutes, and whatever station the Tailies were in, which was obviously deserted long ago. My guess is that each of the six stations were responsible for a different experiment. Let's also not forget the Shark with the Dharma sign on it, indicating that there is some sort of animal experiment going on as well. I believe that Zoology was one of the initiatives mentioned in the Video.

OH MY GAWD!!!!! I can't take this anymore. It just gets stranger and stranger.

Okay, I taped last night's epi. I tape them every week in case I want to go back and check something. I don't keep them (although I probably should) but I tape them. I'm going to go back and watch the hospital scene. Although, I'm pretty sure that the Dr. told Shannon and step-mommy that Dad stopped breathing at the scene of the crash. So, was there actually a choice to be made at the hospital?

So, what are our known, pre-crash, connections so far?

Sawyer meets Jack's Dad in Australia.
Jack meets Desmond in the US.
Jack meets Ana-Lucia at the airport bar (does that count?)
Shannon's dad is in car accident with Jack's future fiance (still an assumption at this point).

Anything else?

I should start keeping a notebook on this stuff. It's getting to hard to remember everything. Although, I'm not sure that's a line that I want to cross......yet!

well if i remember, i think you're right, that shannon's dad had already flatlined by the time he was brought in during the jack flashback episode (before we knew it was shannon's dad). i think they were trying to revive him and that was one reason why jack focusses his attention on his future fiancee, that and i thought it was because the paramedics who brought them both in, said the guy in the suv slammed in to her i.e. it was his fault giving jack a lil touch of vengeance to help save the girl and not the guy responsible.... have to go back and watch EVERYTHING again, argh!

also, i thought there was another connection with kate's car accident and who it was that she ran in to when she came careening out of the parking garage. i'm not sure who that was, but i bet its someone on the island. now we also have Michael's accident to account for and figure out who was in the car that caused his accident.... i dont think anyone's backstory involved hitting a pedestrian yet, but it might have been so pushed in the background as to be (obviously) unnoticed. car "accidents" are definitely a prevalent theme throughout.

Was the flashback where they brought Jack's (future) fiance into the hospital season 1 or 2? What about Kate's car accident? Jack's episode is vaguely familiar. I don't remember Kate's accident at all. I wonder if was one of the episodes that I missed.

both season 1 and early in season 2. they split up the story in parts, the bulk in season 1, and then we learn more with the flasback where jack meets desmond. the season 1 flashback i think was the main one when she was first brought in, and then a quick flashforward to their wedding day and him saying the whole, 'i didnt save her, she saved me' speech. the season 2 flashback was more intense as to him in the ER working on her, her line about wanting to dance at her wedding, her old fiancee not at the hospital, jack running the steps, running into desmond who will see him in another life, the fiancee saying jack stinks, him telling her she'll never walk, her toes wiggling, miracle! yeah! happy times!

kate's flashback was definitely season 1 (i think?), where we learn about her bankrobbing days and then her running from the marshal for when her mom sees her in the hospital who is terrified of her, and then the doc that she once loved helping (or tagging along) with her as she drives out of the hospital garage and is hunted down by the cops/marshall/etc., she crashes into another car, she looks over, sees the dead doc, sees that tiny airplane in the backseat seat, and sees the cop cars approaching quickly, takes off...

Yahoo! has a deleted scene of Claire talking to the pilot about her unborn baby. Very interesting stuff that gives you a little insight as to her apparent detachment to the baby.

Will this episode focus on the tailies? i thought it was listed as "The Other 48 Days" and finally show us what happenned to make them so paranoid and all about the Others. ugh... either way, am anticipating another incredible episode that might barely answer half of one question and bring up about 400 more!!!!

love it.

Sorry, I have no clue how to do that. It was on "My Yahoo" page, along with other news and tidbits. Search Yahoo TV or Yahoo Movies, you should be able to find clips there. I would but my network is tweaked and slow as hell right now. Just bringing up AR takes almost a minute to load!

I found it. It was interesting, but I can see why they chose not to use it. It didn't really add anything to the episode that, I imagine, it was deleted from.

I found this little tidbit in next weeks TV Guide:

"Look for even more Lost synergy in the coming weeks, in the form of a book. Hyperion will add to their Lost line with a novel supposedly written by a character who died in the crash of flight 815. The fictional author, Gary Troup, figures in upcoming episodes of the show."

So, of course, I had to do an internet search for Gary Troup. Here's what I found...

http://www.thebookstandard.com/bookstandard/news/publisher/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001432928

I also did a search for the book's title, Bad Twin. But found nothing. So, I went to Amazon.com and put in Gary Troup. I was immediately taken to a book about Lost, that has yet to be released. But it was not the novel that the articles are referring to. The same thing happened when I entered Bad Twin into the Amazon search.

I imagine that it's only a matter of weeks before Gary Troup's web site or blog appears, discussing this authors bibliography, past personal appearances for book signings and his publisher posting how he's disappeared in a plane crash...just like they did for Charlie and Driveshaft.

It looks like the book was added to the script after Hyperion approached Lost about a marketing opportunity. I hope that the producers don't ruin the whole Lost experience by marketing it into silliness for the sake of profit.

I'll kick this off with a few observations:

1) The little boy's teddy bear. This is the same bear that Jin reacted to when we first saw The Others, during Jin and Mr. Echo's quest to find Michael. I'll bet that we find out later that Jin had some sort of interaction with the little boy on the plane and he recognized the teddy bear when he saw it again. That would explain why he reacted so strongly to it.

2) The red herring of Nathan as an Other. Did anyone else think that the similarity of the names Nathan and Ethan were not coincidence? At least until we found out that Nathan wasn't who Ana-Lucia thought he was.

3) Goodwin's comment, "Nathan was not a good person, that's why he wasn't on the list". How exactly do The Others know who's good and who's not? Hmmm. A list of who's nice? Is there another list of who's naughty? Is the island actually the North Pole and The Others are elves? Are we gonna find out that Santa Claus is responsible for all of this? That would explain the polar bears. Wait a minute! I think I'm onto something!!!!

4) When they find the bunker
a) Quarantine is printed on the inside of the door, just like when the Fusies blew off the hatch to the Swan.
b) There is a Dharma symbol that is not a Swan so we now know, for sure, that it's a different bunker. So, at least two bunkers on the island.
c) The glass eye is puzzling. But no doubt it will turn out to be important at some point so let's make a note of it and not forget it.

Okay. I think that's it. This episode had me totally mesmerized. I did not move from in front of the TV, not even during commercials. And...I have to admit this...I cried when Ana-Lucia started crying. Through this whole show I think, how would I react in that situation? How horrible would it be to survive a plane crash and realize that you're on an island, no-one knows you're there, and there's likely no hope of being rescued. Forget about all the freaky things happening. Just the basic situation would be enough to break me.

So, am I looking forward to next week? To the Tailies and Fusies meeting? To Rose and Bernard being reunited? You bet! And what's going on with that crazy 108 minute clock? I need a new dose of Locke's wisdom.

And let's just see Santa Claus already...'cause I know he's there somewhere!

yeah that 'he wasnt nice' comment was definitely interesting. and the other big one was when she asked about the kids.. and he said, they're in a better place. verrrry interesting.

(side rant: i'd have to say, lucas could learn a thing or two from that episode. why? cuz we knew (exactly as in the prequels) what was going to happen, exactly how it was going to end, and where exactly they would all end up, who would survive, and who would die, and still it was a riveting episode. just because you know how the story ends, doesnt mean the journey to get there has to be dull or contrived.)

i think we know of a third possible bunker. i have to go back and check, but when sayid is captured by the french woman, i have a sneaking suspision there is a dharma symbol on some wall of her bunker. and i am STILL waiting for the explanation of that long ass cord/wire/rope thing that sayid stumbled across and followed in to the french woman's area. how freakin' big is this island? and desmond is still running around out there.

the previews for next weeks episode... LORDY it looks good.

and yeah, that nathan/ethan red herring was great, it got me. but why the hell wasnt he more emphatic about details? you stick me in a cage for 4 days, i'm gonna start remembering some details about the plane to prove my 'innocence' but i digress... nitpicky detail. am dreading going to the lost boards on abc and seeing everything that i missed..... or... everything that was "lost" on me... if you will... or... everything that.. ok, that's enough.

I still think Nathan was not a passenger on the plane. I think Ana Lucia was right. I think he was like Ethan. Probably a reject or bannished person from the "Others" but definitely not a passenger. That's why Goodwin was so fast to kill him and thought he was not a good person. He had been banished? Maybe. Who knows. Ah, it's so confusing yet so much fun.

And another thing. I could have sworn I remember a cast member at some point with an eyepatch. That might tie into the fake eye they found in the chest.

I also like how Bernard was the other person on the Radio when Boone (in the airplane)thought he had reached someone. Very cool.

I also think I notice and I will have to go back and check, when the tailies were hiking in the woods and about to set up camp in the forest, I'm pretty sure I saw the black smoke in the background coming from the peak that the signaled the coming of the Others to the french women in an earlier episode. The tailies did not seem to notice it.

I was also glued to the screen the whole time. I watched it late last night on DVR and kept going back and forth trying to figure out clues.

hey jse, check the rock that echo was holding the first night the others came and he was found all bloodied up, i just read on another lost board that the rock didnt have any blood on it and the theory is the others were caught by the islands defense mechanism (the monster) and killed, while echo fought off the monster and that's why it took him 40 days to talk, as he had to come to terms with what he saw, ala locke. so locke and echo are the only two who have seen the monster up close and personal (if the theory is right).

also, does anyone remember who came out of the bathroom when charlie went in to take his hit? was that nathan? just read that nathan might be a renegade "other" and that's why goodwin wanted him dead.

so more clues we've learned:

an Other carried a 20 year old military issue army knife.
ana lucia has some sort of training to be a badass.
someone is missing an eye
IF the others have santa clause lists of good/bad people (i.e. goodwin was telling the truth there) then the tailies left alive are all 'bad' people according to the others.

It's also strange that Goodwin seemed suprised when the Tailies found their bunker. This seems to support the Other's are/were a part of a "bigger picture" experiment. They are simply the "mice" that were left behind and have formed their own society on the Island.

One thing is for sure, the passenger's will probably "take it to" the others at some point. There is an arsenal in the Swan bunker. I would be finding out what's going on one way or another if I was there.

Good call on the eyepatch, JSE. I forgot about that until now.

I've now started dvr'ing Lost because you maniacs keep making me go back to look for clues. I wonder if the fire that the fusies found on the beach when they were trying to escape the Others was actually the abandoned tailies fire? The Others seem to stay inland, so that would make sense. Also, we still don't have any answers to as to what that wierd whispering noise was right before Ana shot Shannon. What's up with that?

One thing I was a bit disappointed in was that they used only one episode to bring the tailies and fusies timelines together. I was actually expecting them to use three or four episodes with just the tailies so we could really get into their characters, much like the fusies.

Ah well, I'm not complaining. Ana better watch her back, because Sayid is pissed. Let's not forget the guy is a former Red Guard or whatever. Killing and torture is old hat for this guy.

I agree with catching up in one episode. I was also disappointed that they didn't spend more time letting us get to know the characters. They've been together 48 days. Certainly, they've gotten to know each other better. Talked about their lives before the crash. It would have been interesting to have followed the same format for the Tailies that was followed for the Fusies. Give us a couple of episodes with their back stories. Before bringing the two groups together.

So how do you think that Ana and Kate will get along? They seem to be very similar. Both strong, tough, opinionated, leaders. We know a little bit about Kate's background. Ana's background is destined to be just as interesting from the little that we know about her. Will they become friends or will they fight for the alpha female position? My money is on a good battle for alpha female (and for Sawyer's attention, assuming that he survives this infection).

Also, my guess is that, somewhere down the road, there will be a third installment of the first 48 days....from The Others perpective. How this society, already on the island, reacts to newcomers suddenly landing on their turf, from the sky! How does the addition of these newcomers affect their existence? How has it changed how they live...or has it? If The Others are part of an experiment (leftover mice, as it was said), wouldn't this be an interesting twist to the experiment? Maybe our new friend Libby, the clinical psychologist, is in on the whole thing and there to observe. That would explain why The Others didn't try to take her. Hmmmmm?

ooooooo i like that last idea... the First 48 Days once again from the other's pov... that would be freaky good!! with the preview over here, they showed echo carrying someone towards jack and asking him if he was a doctor, looked like it coulda been sayid or sawyer (was wearing dark clothes). and they showed ana-lucia talking to kate (i think) telling her about sayid, that 'i killed the woman he loved' as it looks like there's gonna be some serious tension going on with those two (obviously).

am not sure if libby is a part of the others, as much as she might be the key to solving the puzzle with the whole clinical psychologist connection. that once locke hears about her he'll also hear that she's a CP, then he'll make that connection and take libby down into the bunker to watch that film, and then she'll have some sort of historical connection to it all and know something and that'll be the cliffhanger ending to season 2, and then we'll get to know more. that's my couch potato prediction.:D

I knew that I'd cry when Rose and Bernard were reunited. I just knew it!

An entertaining hour for sure. And an interesting story about Ana-Lucia. So, we have four cold-blooded murderers (that we know of) on the island. AL, Sawyer, Kate, and Sayid.

Jack certainly seemed excited to hear that AL was alive, initially. I see this as a new love interested for Jack. Bye bye Katie. That's okay. Kate will bounce back from being jilted by Jack once Sawyer gets better (he will get better, right? :( ).

There really wasn't a lot for me to comment on last night. Just a straight-forward story with no new questions asked and no old questions answered.

But that trailer for next week!!!! The clock runs down! Ah, but does it really? Or is it just another teaser....Locke's dream is my guess.

you all get a different trailer up there than we do down here! the trailer here said they're going to reveal more about kate's past and what all her secrets really are. jack was asking a feverish sawyer if he loves kate, or.. if he loves "her" and sawyer says yes, but it seemed as if he was referring to a different her than kate, then they show sawyer attacking kate, and kate running around, and then the trailer guys voice.. "kates past will be revealed" dunh dunh daaaaaa!

i've also been scanning the backgrounds during the flashback scenes but didnt notice anyone in the background of ana-lucia's flashbacks. i thought maybe sawyer's or kate's wanted picture might have been in the background of the scene with her captain/mom, but they were too small and couldnt tell. i really liked the sayid/ana-lucia captivity scene. i also kind of felt a lil bizarro seinfeld episode when mr echo and locke first met. almost like there are two "lockes" on the island. and ana-lucia is a combo sawyer/kate.

oh and there's another huge connection on the island.... albeit a tad tenuous... the baby's. ana-lucia had hers taken from her before she made it/was brought to the island, where as claire kept hers before she made it/was brought to the island. and did anyone else notice all the fairly hot chicks pop out of the woodwork when the tailies and jin showed up? the blonde that walked up to jin first... i was like, and where have YOU been on the island? hehehe. aside from the t-rex, polar bears, monster, the Others, ghosts, crazy frenchwoman, crazy desmond, and a strange doomsday device.. this ain't a bad place to find yourself.

Agreed, this was a pretty straight forward episode. Ana's a freakin' loose-cannon psycho. That girl definitely has issues. The fact that she was pregnant was a nice touch, tho. Quite frankly, I've never really cared for this actress. She always plays a b!tch with a chip on her shoulder (see SWAT).

The only thing that stood out in my mind was when Mr. Echo picked up Sawyer to take him to Jack. Ana asked if he was doing it for them, he said, "No. I'm doing it for me." Eventually, we'll probably see something in his background related to some sort of loss or feeling of helplessness. Then again, maybe I'm reading too much into this (is that possible with this show?)

The reunion's were pretty cool. A little sappy with the slo-mo, but cool nonetheless. Rose and Bernard were definitely the highlight.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Whoa! I get your point but she's only an actress playing a role. :) If you are familiar with the Sgt. Cruz [played by Tia Texada] character on NYPD Blue, she played a b**tch you'd love to hate. My wife met Ms. Texada, one day while shopping in a Manhattan store and the actress was very nice -- nothing like the TV character -- she even took our mailing address and sent my wife an autographed photo.

ok so i watched the first disc of season one (Pilot part 1-2, Tabula Rasa and Walkabout) over the weekend... and i found some interesting things from the first few episodes. there's definitly a huge predestiny/ destiny thing going on...

1) locke's obessession with what he is 'destined' to do.

2) bernard was supposed to be with the fusie's section, but because he went to the bathroom, he ended up with the tailies.

3) charlie was supposed to be with the tailies' section, but because he had to have a hit, ended up with the fusies.

4) the fusies all called locke "Mr. Locke" in those first few episodes, just like "Mr. Echo" on the tailies section. and locke, playing backgammon with walt, explaining the game to him says "there's two sides, a light side and a dark side...." i think locke and echo are going to be opposite sides of the same coin.

ahhhhh what a great freakin' show!!

I'm with you. This was a good one! I knew that we'd find more film eventually. And I loved how Mr. Echo tied the finding of the film in with the finding of the Old Testament. If I remember correctly, when the Tailies found the box of stuff in their bunker, the book that they found was the Bible. That was the same book that had been hollowed out to hide the film. So, one question answered...what else the the narrator of the film says after don't try to use the computer for anything else. But...as expected...a whole new set of questions arises. Why was the film cut? Who cut it? How did it get into the Bible in the other bunker? What is The Incident? What does using the computer to contact the outside world have to do with The Incident? AND HOW THE HELL IS WALT CONTACTING MICHAEL? AND IS IT REALLY WALT??????

Is it coincidence that someone contacted the computer just as Locke and Echo watched the lost footage?

And what was Michael doing sniffing around all of that hardware? He was an unemployed artist, not a computer geek. What did he think he'd find? If I were Locke I wouldn't have been so relaxed about Michael poking about. Not if I really thought that the world was going to end if there was a computer meltdown.

I was right about the clock counting down to zero, in last weeks trailer, just being a teaser. I'm beginning to not trust those trailers at all.

What did he think he'd find?

to answer your questions:
The film was cut to make things more mysterious and confounding to all of us but still be strangely satifying when the answer finally is given even though it evokes more questions with the answer.

It was cut by someone who will make things more mysterious and confounding to all of us but still be strangely satifying when the answer finally is given even though it evokes more questions with the answer.

It got into the bible in the other bunker in a way that will make things more mysterious and confounding to all of us but still be strangely satifying when the answer finally is given even though it evokes more questions with the answer.

The Incident is something that will make things more mysterious and confounding to all of us but still be strangely satifying when the answer finally is given even though it evokes more questions with the answer.

Using the computer to contact the outside world is related to the Incident in a way that will make things more mysterious and confounding to all of us but still be strangely satifying when the answer finally is given even though it evokes more questions with the answer.

Walt is contacting michael in a way that will make things more mysterious and confounding to all of us but still be strangely satifying when the answer finally is given even though it evokes more questions with the answer.

Yes. It really is walt.

No it wasnt coincidence.

And michael had said he was an engineer at one point, i think he gave it up to go after his art, but that's the connection to why he figured he could tinker with the computer.

Michael thought he'd find something that would make things more mysterious and confounding to all of us but still be strangely satifying when the answer finally is given even though it evokes more questions with the answer

:)
ahhh, that should clear things up nicely for ya! :)

the trailer over here for next weeks' episode showed Mr. Echo grabbing one of the virgin mary dolls with heroin in it and smashing it with his club while reciting a biblical prayer while sayid (i think, or mr. echo) is loading one of the rifles, and of course quick cuts of everyone and then a gunshot and a scream. so.... that pretty much makes things more mysterious and confounding to all of us but still will be strangely satifying when the answer finally is given even though it evokes more questions with the answer. :)

i am SOOOOOOOO lost.

alrighty, so here's what happenned:

starts off in the early morning as everyone wakes up. jin walks out of his tent looking all ripped and defined as sun hugs him, hurley walks out of his tent well rested, and they look over and see.... Sayid digging a grave.

Inside the hatch jake is taking care of sawyer. Locke comes in and asks where kate is, jack says the only way he got rid of her was sending her to get fruit for sawyer.

outside in the jungle, kate is up on a tree collecting fruit, slips, drops some fruit and goes down to collect it. as she gathers the fruit from the ground, she looks up and sees... a black stallion (maybe it's a mare, i thought stallion just from the old movie of the same name) and then with the rising sound and bass we... FLASHBACK

Kate is sitting on the steps of some house when a truck approaches and a very drunk man walks up. Kate helps him inside and gets him in to bed, he makes a few innapropriate comments and then falls asleep. kate walks out, gets on her bike, rides away and... KABOOM! House explodes.

Back in the hatch Sawyer, in his fevered stupor mumbling a little and asks jack where is she, he says kate, and sawyer says "I love her.". sawyer passes back out and kate walks in. jack says she should go to the funeral and kate says she'll stay with sawyer and that jack should go. jack leaves.

At the beach, Mr. Echo is talking to Ana and says that nearly everyone knows it was an accident and that he is going to the funeral. She says she won't go.

At the funeral Sayid gives a nice lil heartfelt speach, saying how he never would have met her, they never would have talked if.... but they did, and he loved her. Then he started to cry and ran off like a lil girl. Jack walked up, grabbed some dirt and tossed it into the grave as everyone else followed suit.

Another FLASHBACK as Kate goes in to a diner and talks to her mom. She gives her some paperwork that's an insurance policy on the house. Her mom keeps asking, what did you do!? What did you do!? and kate tearfully says, i took care of you mom. and then leaves.

Back at the hatch sawyer begins to whisper and then Kate leans in, Sawyer's eyes open momentarily and he sees kate, grabbing her by the neck and says "Why did you kill me!?" kate fights away and runs off! Jack and locke return to the hatch hearing the countdown from the machine. Locke rushes to the machine as jack rushes to sawyer who is laid out on the floor. Locke quickly pushes the numbers in just as the countdown reaches 4 (i think?) and then resets. Jack helps sawyer back to the bed and then goes searching for kate.

Another FLASHBACK as Kate is buying a busticket to tallahassee, florida. from behind her a man begins talking to her and she turns to see... the Marshall. She tries to escape bu he catches her and she says she didnt do anything. The Marshall says you're wanted for murder, your good 'ol mom turned you in. As they're driving in a torential downpour, the marshall keeps prodding her with questions, asking her why she did it now, why she killed Dwayne now? she says you dont know anything about me and then the marshall proceeds to dissect her situation... saying young girl, family gets divorced, dad leaves, mom meets a new guy, he beats her, but hey, thats how things are, she still loves him, he moves in, becomes 'daddy' but still beats mom and then maybe he starts to take advantage of kate... then kate explodes and says he never touched me. the marshall looks back at the road, swerves to avoid something, and hits a lightpole. Kate struggles with him, kicks him out of the car, and drives off. As she drives off, she looks at the middle of the road and sees... the black stallion.

In the Hatch, Michael and Echo get a little rundown of things from Locke, who shows them the orientation video. After watching it, Locke asks echo what he thinks, and echo doesnt say anything, but stands up and walks out. Locke shows michael the computer system. Michael asks why they dont input the numbers now (with plenty of time remaining) and locke says they can only input the numbers when there are at least 4 minutes left on the timer, it doesnt work otherwise, and to show him, he hits a few keys and nothing happens. Locke walks out and sees Echo waiting for him with a bundled package. He tells him a story about the old testament and then says this is something he will need. He hands him the bible they found in the tailies' hatch and locke thumbs through it to find.... the missing spliced film!!!

On the island, Jack finds Kate sitting down in the jungle. He asks why she ran away from sawyer and what happenned and she tries to leave, he grabs her and she ends up crying in his arms, then kisses him passionately (i thought it was "passionately", but might have been more needy of a kiss, more of a desire for a connection than just passion, but i digress) and then runs away.

Locke and Echo splice the film together and watch it. Locke does his whole 'fate and luck" talk about finding the two pieces, and Echo says: "Do not mistake coincidence for fate." Then they break out the orville redenbocher and sit down for a solid flick. Its the section right where the dude says, "dont use the computer for any... congratulations and welcome to.." part. THey splice it in and he says: don't use the computer for any reason other than to input the numbres. even with the extreme isolation of station 6, you might want to use the computer to contact the outside world, this is strictly prohibited, and any contact may cause another Incident.. so, congratulations and welcome to....

Another FLASHBACK( might have the timings of the flashback's off, but i think this is where it came) Kate walks in to an army recruitment center and goes up to an older man. Says Hi Dad, and we meet kate's real dad... (or do we) They talk and she asks him why he never told her... why didnt he ever tell her... that dwayne was really her real father! (D'oh!) he says she was five when they divorced and he loved her and wanted to take her with him but he couldn't. so he didnt want her to know dwayne was her father because he knew she'd kill him. kate asks him why he didnt kill dwayne himself then. and her father says because i dont have murder in my blood (Oooooo that had to hurt!) so kate leaves and her father says i have to call the marshall. she asks for an hour and he nods his head. she hugs him and says goodbye, and leaves.

Back at the hatch kate walks up and sits down next to sawyer. He's passed out. She calls out his name and he stays passed out. She calls out "Dwayne" and he begins to stir. She says maybe i'm going crazy, but talks to 'dwayne' through sawyer and tells him why she did it. she said she killed him because she hated to think that he was a part of her, that she came from him. and she hated that and had to kill him. and she hated that everytime she has feelings for sawyer, or thinks of sawyer, that she thinks of dwayne. when... sawyer stirs awake and says, that's the nicest thing i've ever heard, now who the hell is dwayne? he sees he's in a bunk bed and thinks he's saved when she tells him they're still on the island. he doesnt believe her till she takes him out of the hatch to the familiar jungle and sits him down. he looks over his shoulder and says, maybe he wants to go back in to the hatch. she looks back too and sees... the black stallion. she asks sawyer if he sees it, and he says, if you mean the black horse in the middle of the jungle, yeah, i see it. She pets the horse on the nose and then it turns and trots off into the jungle.

Back at the hatch, michael is fiddling around with the back of the computers, just checking out how things work and look when he hears a beeping noise. he looks around and around till he sees the screen of the computer where it is written... Hello?
he types.... this is the transcript:

Hello?

> Hello?

Who is this?

>This is michael, who is this?

Dad?

D'oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Episode ends. (i added the d'oh, michael didnt write that).
:D

update: oh yeah, another funny line was earlier on kate runs in to charlie and asks him if he thinks there are any horses on the island or if he's seen any horses. his reply: Well i've seen polar bears, but no horses.
And jack brings a drink to ana towards the end and they sit together and share a drink.

Bless you, Kam :D. I know that took a fair amount of time and I appreciate the effort. Now if you can mail me a tape...:p.

Man, this sounds like it was a great episode. Kate's background is pretty twisted (who's isn't?). I'm really curious about Mr. Echo's past, and it looks like next episode could reveal a lot about that. I've set Lost to "season pass" on my Tivo, so thankfully I won't be making the same mistake twice.

Thanks for bringing me up to speed.

Anytime! if i had taped it, would gladly send. unfortunately, am just waiting for the season 2 dvd to come out haha. it was a really solid episode and had some funny moments. another good one was when mr. echo sat locke down to tell him about the bible he found and the film strip inside it. he sits him down and says (paraphrasing):

Echo: I need to tell you something and I will begin at the very beginning.

Locke: Ok.

Echo: Thousands of years before Jesus Christ walked the earth, there were the jews....

Locke: Wow you really meant the "beginning".

It was hysterical! Especially with locke's dry, matter of fact delivery. A great scene and i think a huge set up as far as pitting echo against locke in the future. (remember that backgammon game, two sides, one light, one dark). Albeit this would be the most blatant symobolism of anything else on the island... OH.. and another thing i forgot, in the trailer for the next episode, they showed the Monster (from the monster's pov) rushing forward to attack Mr. Echo, BUT just like locke, he stands there and watches it come at him. Having just rewatched the early episodes, it pretty much mirrored exactly when locke saw the Monster.

And another thing (if there weren't enough things already) but back in White Rabit (season 1 where jack sees his dad wandering the island) Locke followed jack into the jungle and then goes looking for water, leaving jack behind and tells jack: "I've looked into the heart of the island, and what i saw is beautiful." Which i think further explains his desire to let the Monster take him down into that hole, as well as why the Monster didnt take him, but did take the pilot, and others. Lordy i can't stop!!!

Great job Kam!

Topspeed, I can mail you a tape if you PM me your address. You'll just have to wait a few days until I have time to watch last Sunday's Six Feet Under (we're only on Season Three here in the Great White North), which is on the same tape.

how dare they take time off from providing me with quality entertainment! although a lost rerun is still more exciting than anything else out there.

btw, not sure if anyone wants any more of an addiction, but found another lost board (not the abc one) that has a ton of theories and info on it from really, super fanatic posters (yes i know this is the tea calling the kettle black) but will defn suck up some serious time out of your life just reading. i dare not post there as well and have another reason to fall further lost.

Is it this one? http://www.lost-tv.com. This is the one where I saw the Dharma mark on the shark. It was a free site, then you had to pay for it, then they found a new home in a less expensive neighbourhood and now it's free again. :)

not to give everyone even MORE hunting..... but.... do this: (or ignore if you've already found these goodies, i'm a bit slow for a fanatic).

http://thehansofoundation.org/

Then click on alvar hanso link, then click on his picture, and watch what happens. Don't do anything, and wait till the next screen comes up after the computer finishes writing.

Then: go to Active Projects link and run your cursor over the last project to watch another Dharma Initiative training video! AND. under Active Projects, go to the Life-Extension Project link, and at the bottom of the page, at "Barring an unforseen incident...." there's another hidden link. If you crack the code, let me know!!!!

I knew that it was only a matter of time before stuff started showing up on this site. :) I LOVE this kind of stuff.

Okay, a few thoughts on these newly discovered events....

Mole? There's a mole on the island? What does that mean? Is it someone from the Hanso Foundation who is watching either The Others or our survivors? Or both? And why? I did make a comment to that effect a few episodes ago about the Clinical Psychologist with the Tailies.

Life Extension Project - Hmmmm. Are The Others part of this project? Is that why they only take the "good" people? Because they don't want to extend the life of a bad person? Perhaps Hanso is some sort of ****ed-up scientist whose goal is to create a new society of only good people who will live forever.

I just looked up Zanzibar on Wikipedia and Sayyid appears to be the word for Sultan (the title for those who rule Zanzibar). So, I wonder if our friend Sayid has a much more prominent role in all of this than currently appears.

Regarding the Orientation Video. What I saw appeared to be the same video that we saw on the show...the original version, before Echo's newly found footage. Is there a different one that you saw?

A couple of new observations about the video. There are two shots that show extreme close-ups of the narrators upper face. I thought that this was an unusual shot for this type of film. Also, there was something that he said about the "unfortunate incident" and the new protocol of having to push the button every 108 minutes that gave me a new theory...
what if the "unfortunate incident" was nothing more than the researchers deserting the bunker and ruining the experiment (whatever it was). So that the new protocol of pushing the button is for no other reason than to make sure that people stay put there. I don't believe that anything catstrophic will happen to the island if it's not pushed.

I'm having some trouble with the time-frame of things. The new information on the Hanso web-site is current dated. Yet our island friends are only on, what?, day 50 maybe? Not even at Thanksgiving of 2004 yet. So, is there really a link to what we're finding now and the show? Or are these all just red herrings to keep us hooked? (get it? herring...hooked. :D ).

Hey, I was just preparing an email to a friend of mine to share some of my internet easter eggs with her and I found something new on the Oceanic-air site. It may not be new, but it's new to me.

I highlighed the Important Announcement and copied it to Word (which I've done before) to see the hidden messages. Only this time when I copied it, one of the things that appeared on my Word document was a pencil drawing of a ship with the letters NY on it and an envelope addressed to Walt in Australia. I guess its one of the drawings that Michael sent to Walt, but I found it interesting that I've never seen it before. I wonder if the drawing is at all connected to the message...

If anyone should find this message, please get word I'm alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they're getting worse...
Sally

Althought this was on the Oceanic-air site. I don't think this message is from one of our people. It doesn't mention a plane (which the second message copied does) and I don't recall a Sally on the island. Maybe we'll find out that Sally was shipwrecked on the island. Am I missing something?

P.S. It doesn't look like we're getting a new episode until January. December is gonna suck!

i dont know if its still there, but they also had a picture made by walt (i think) of michael in a hospital bed in a cast. it was also hidden/embedded in the website the same way (copying and pasting in to word). there was another picture, i think of an airplane going down as well, but i dont remember.

i dont remember a sally either, but i first came across that after the raft episode, so i thought that was one of the messages one of the survivors put in the bottle, although that obviously didnt reach "civilization." i think you're right though, that sally wasnt on the plane. maybe sally is a disgruntled "other?" or a dharma project person not on the flight, but on the island?

hmm... gee... more questions? no.... that's not possible!

Since she wasn't seatbelted in or restrained by the walls of the bathroom, maybe she just fell towards the back of the plane before it broke up.

.....Or maybe there were evil forces at play. BWAAAHAAAAHAAAAA

that's the mole! or one of them. the mole in the fusie's section is....... the girl in the background who came to greet jin when he returned to the beach. yep, dead give away that evil glint in her eye.

plus, not sure if anyone's done the bible thing yet, but using the numbers as biblical chapter references gives some interesting results, then again, as obscure as the bible can be in places, ANYTHING in there can make sense and apply to the show! cane/abel references, lost now i see type stuff, will not believe the messenger stuff... still pretty interesting and another trail to trek down.

I know, it's lame to reply to your own post. But as I watched this week's rerun I found an interesting bit that just shows how good the writing on this show really is. And, in a way relates to my post above.

This was the scene where Mr. Echo and Jin are walking through the jungle looking for Michael, who is looking for Walt. Echo and Jin come across, the now dead, Goodwin with the stake through his body.

Echo: His name was Goodwin
Jin: Others?
Echo: (nods)

When we first saw this scene (before we knew the story of Goodwin's death), when Jin asked others we assumed that he was asking, "did the others do this?" and Echo responded "yes they did".

But now, Jin is likely asking the same question but Echo may be thinking that Jin is asking, "was he one of the Others?". And Echo response is, "yes, he is one of the Others".

An interesting change in meaning now that we have the answer to how Goodwin ended up dead like that.

An interesting change in meaning now that we have the answer to how Goodwin ended up dead like that.

yeah it is pretty lame... hehe. j/k :)

that's what really really got me hooked in the show - how they slowly tell you bits and pieces of the story over time and once you know more of the story, it all makes more sense. the perfect example was early on when they told Sun's side of the story first and Jin came across as a total a-hole and jerk. like when she comes in to the bathroom to find him washing blood off his hands and he is so curt and gruff with her. then about 2 episodes later they told jin's side of the backstory and ya felt like a total heel for not liking the guy. really makes you think about judging someone/anyone before you really know all the facts.

it all ties in to the opening show credit as "Lost" slowly turns as it moves into the screen. It's out of focus and then for just one brief second its in focus, and then it goes out of focus again. the perfect opening for the show. everything happens for a reason.

You're starting to see numbers everywhere.

If you count up the number of my posts, divide by the 9th prime number, multiply by the derivative of my uncle's first address times the fifth number I am thinking of right now you'll see something truly amazing.

has anyone been listening to the itunes LOSTCasts podcasts? have been listening to the 11th one, about the "What Kate Did" episode and there are some seriously cool fascinating things in there.
They talked about the significance of the animals on the island, the missing piece of film, and theories. A cool thing was the link between characters/animals. i.e.
kate - black horse
sawyer - boar
walt - white polar bear

an interesting link is the whole revelations passages in the bible about the lamb showing to john the four horseman of the apocolaypse, the third of which was the black horse, famine. which means, that the white horse (the anti christ) and the red horse (war) are already unleashed on the island? and which leaves a pale horse to be revealed and its rider... death. (the last is my own crazy musings).

good listening to fill the void of these last few weeks.

just read what i wrote... "fill the void"? wow i am seriously unhealthy about this show.

TWO HOUR SHOW?????? THERE'S A TWO HOUR SHOW????? WAIT! I'LL BE BACK.....GOTTA CHECK THE WEBSITE....

I'm back. First of all....how the L did my response to GM end up before his post? I hate when that happens.

According to the ABC web site it looks like the next episodes are on January 11 (what about Jan.3?), it looks like there will be an episode at 8:00 which will be yet another summary show of the first 48 days from both the Tailie's and Fusie's points of view. Then a new episode at 9:00.

Also, an ABC "Official" Lost Fan Club coming soon.

And, I'll have to check out the podcasts. Thanks to Kam for the head's up...I didn't know they existed.

You know, it's hard to believe that January 11 will only be episode 10. There better not be any breaks or reruns for a very long time!

I'd like to know how The Young and the Restless (yes, I watch it...been watching it for almost 25 years!!) can get through the entire holiday season and still have a new show EVERY SINGLE DAY, yet Lost feels they need a 5 week break. In that 5 weeks, Y&R was on TV more than 25 times!!! These next Lost episodes better be damn good to make up for the extended break.

Somewhere in my internet travels I came across a program that you could download where every 108 minutes you had to type in the code and hit enter. It was developed so that we could experience the button ourselves. I think that if you missed pushing the button on time your intelligence exploded into billions of little tiny pieces and your IQ dropped down to your shoe size.

LOL. As I was watching it, I thought, "this is gonna kill Kam". Honestly, I thought that. :D

It said, "I want you to come...". In the Canadian trailer for next week, Michael goes AWOL with a couple of guns. We're led to believe that he's gone to find Walt. So, maybe Walt gave his location. My guess is that it won't be that simple. Those trailers are always misleading.

What about the rest of the show? How about that little interaction between Mr. Echo and the black fog. What exactly is that thing??? And Ecko's connection to the island!!!! Finding his brother there! Now that's just crazy. He certainly can't believe that's a coincidence (I'm refering to his comment to Locke about not confusing coincidence with fate). I suppose that was a turning point for him, making him tell Charlie that "yes" he is a priest. I guess Locke won't be the only man of faith on the island anymore.

Kate and Sawyer seem to be getting much closer. Jack appears none too happy about it too.

And the ending, seeing Charlie with all those statues was totally predictable. When Charlie led Ecko back to the airplane, realizing that Charlie knew where it was, I thought that there is no way that Charlie would have taken only one statue and left the rest there in the jungle.

I have to say that it was an interesting episode, but a little disappointing after such a long wait.

lol, am not sold yet on if its walt. the comment "are you alone" made me doubt it. why would walt care, and would a kid of his age think to write that over telling his father where he is, or how to help him, or if he's in danger. he did say he didnt have much time because they were coming back. it might be a ploy by the others to get michael to lead the group right to them.
i think we had the same preview here too, it ended with the group standing in a clearing with a bunch of signal fires going off in a circle around them, and am ominous voice saying "This is our island"
it showed locke, jack, sawyer, and sayid going after michael after he bolted for walt, with jack forcing (or telling) kate to stay behind. me senseth another death doth approach.

so now three people have clearly seen the monster, and both locke/echo have fully confronted it and had it back down, whereas others (the pilot, etc) were scooped up by it. and i know they didnt do that track through the middle of the monster for no reason. hearing those sounds from the interior of the monster, whatever the heck those noises were, was given to us for a reason, which i am sure will not be evident until season 3!!! argh. so its mechanical in sound, with even some computer type noises, yet completely amorphous and can dissipate in the air, yet explodes up out of the ground as its exit. "exit from where?" being a key question which wont be answered for many episodes to come i am sure. i think the monster makes the person face its fear, that the monster is fear itself. and echo and locke may be the only two people on the island who have come face to face with their own fears, and conquered them.
i really liked the episode and enjoyed echo's journey from innocence, through the hell he went through, back to the innocence of his brother on the plane. overall a good episode and nice setups for the rest of the season to continue with.

although, you can definitely check on the tape, i didnt tape it, but i swore we only saw the "i want you to co..." we didnt actually see the "m" or the "e" being typed. of course, that is me being extra paranoid with those damn sneaky writers, but he could have written, i want you to coordinate an attack on the others, or i want you to comply with what i am saying, or i want you to coexist peacefully with sawyer, or i want you to complete me, or i want you to constantly bicker, or i want you to confuse everyone further with an enigmatic look back at the screen when jack comes in. i'm betting its the last one.

those screenshots are great! i think the images in there might help my monster = fear argument. and goes back to charlie's quote from the first episode when they find the pilot tossed, broken and bloodied up in the trees after the monster pulled him out of the cockpit, "What could have done that?"

I'm sure my questions are old, but:

If the computer can not be used for anything but entering "the code" what will happen now that Michael is using it to contact whoever it is calling him dad?

Where did the other guy who was there before them entering the code go? Did he get off the island?

I think Jack will start showing more interest in AnnaLuccia (or whatever her name is).
But that's kind of obvious with him bringing her drinks and his knowing her from before they got on the plane. They met at the airport bar right?

the splice of the training video that echo found in the bible said that any use of the computer to contact the outside world may result in another 'incident'.
the guy, desmond, once jack's grou got in to the hatch bolted and ran like lightening into the jungle. we havent heard/seen of him since then.
yep, jack met ana lucia at the airport bar right before take off, where they compared tickets, his in the front, hers in the back of the plane... and she joked: "want to switch seats?"

Maybe the first incident resulted in the black cloud. Time/space rip/warp of some kind. But the cloud didn't kill Echo because "he did not fear it?" And how did he know that fearing it would make any difference?

that's totally just my guess on what the monster/cloud might be. am guessing it didnt kill him because he is a "man of faith" like locke. given that only locke/echo are the only two who have survived the monster so far, and locke has really been pushed up as a 'man of faith' and now so is echo, just kinda going by deductive (or is it inductive? i keep getting them mixed up) reasoning. 2 people survived, what do they have in common? faith/belief. locke and echo are very much so two sides of the same coin, and very reflective of the very first episode where locke held up the backgammon pieces to walt to explain the game... "there are two sides, one white, one black." locke seems to have confronted his fears to be at peace with himself, and i think echo has as well by the time he got to the island, all he needed to do was finally bury his past with his brother. locke found himself there, found his destiny as the great hunter he knew was in himself that he wanted to find from the 'walkabout' he had planned to take in australia. this is his "spiritual journey of awakening" he has sought. i think the same for echo, he, regardless of him saying "its not a sin" has been atoning for his sins for the last several years as a priest in his brother's stead. now we just need the next part of the puzzle, why was Echo on that flight? why was echo in australia, heading to los angeles?

I've just reviewed some of the tape (I love working from home!). Here are some more observations/answers/questions.

Kam, I agree with you that it's not actually Walt on the computer. I didn't think about him asking "are you alone?", but what you say makes sense...why would Walt care? Also, Michael sat down at the computer and started typing but nothing happened. Then "Dad?" appears. So, whoever is at the other end is controlling the computer, otherwise why wouldn't Micheal's typing show up on the screen?

And...for the record...it's "I want you to com...". We do see the "m". That doesn't mean "come" necessarily. Also, would Walt say, I want you to...anything? Wouldn't he be more likely to say, "Dad I'm at X, come get me". I want you to is a command, not something that a desperate child would say.

About Eko and the smoke... Charlie stops in the jungle, looks around, and says that he's lost. Eko suddenly looks scared. He looks around like he's looking for something, not just the right direction to head, but like he knows that he's being followed. Then he insists that Charlie climb the tree..."you have to go higher". I believe that he does this to save Charlie from whatever Eko thinks is about to happen. He continues to look around...definately looking FOR something. I think he knows that something is going to happen. Maybe he doesn't know what's going to happen, but he's knows that something's up.

On the spliced tape...wouldn't splicing the tape back together create some sort of blip where the splice is? When watching the recap show and they showed the spliced version of the Orientation tape, it was a completely smooth transition. No blip, skip, crackle, or otherwise. A little inconsistant with reality?

I saw the US trailer on-line. It's definately different, and much more intriguing, than the Canadian trailer. In the Canadian one, Locke and Jack are in the bunker. Locke is rubbing his head asking what happened. Jack tells him that Michael knocked him out. Then Jack asks why Locke gave M a gun. Locke replies that M wanted one for target practice. Then flash to Hurley on the beach saying that Michael stole a bunch of guns and took off Comando style...or something like that. There is nothing about the rest of the gang going after him, Jack not letting Kate go, and no "This is our island". I'd like to know why they show different trailers in the two countries. Even if I watch Lost on the US network, I get the Canadian trailer. I don't understand. So...what else is new? :D

ahhh great observation about eko and the charlie and the tree-climbing! i didnt pick up on that but i think you're dead on. i think eko did know that something was coming, that he, like locke, is somehow attuned to the island.

about the splicing, actually its fine with reality, it actually shows, if anything, locke's attention to detail and ability as an old-school moviola/steenbeck editor. that's how they cut movies before, they actually physically spliced the actual film prints together to make a "cut" they literally cut the film and taped it to the next section. so the fact that it was seemless is fine, because it would be a seemless cut like any other cut we see in the film, the thing it shows is how darn good locke was at finding the exact frame to splice it in at (although i think that where the suspension-of-belief might just have to kick in that he's obviously not a great film editor as well as everything else, but just spliced 'em together so it works).

Wouldn't the tape that they were first watching have to have been spliced to begin with? The section of tape inside the book must have been cut from the original (why). So it would just be a matter of locke finding where the first tape was cut and taped.

depends, but yep, that's the easiest explanation. unless what they were watching was a print of teh spliced up version would be the only other explanation, i'd have to go back and see that scene where locke spliced it in. i thought i saw him cutting the original and then taping this one in, which would mean the original film strip they were watching in the swan bunker was a print specifically made with that section spliced out. although, now i think we are looking WAY too far into it and this may be the first section where TOO much is being looked into a tiny detail. haha.
just maybe though....

yeah, even with the eko portion put in, it still had a number of awkward jumpcuts/splices where there were other sections obviously cut out. maybe the other film splices are in the other dharma stations on the island? liek another film reel will be found with the frenchwoman, and then wherever the other 3 dharma stations are... ugh... so many questions!!! haha.

Not yet. I like it, but it doesn't consume my thoughts the way it seems to pull at you. I haven't even programmed my DVR to record it every week yet. But I do have last night's show. Maybe if I keep watching.

Wifey hates it though. Couldn't get her to watch last night. She gets upset when she doesn't understand what's going on. A couple of weeks ago we watched together and she kept asking me, "why did he do that? Why is she saying that? Who is this, what is that?" Last night when she saw me watching it again she let out a loud, "humpf!" and went to the other room to watch something else.

I really liked this episode. As soon as it was revealed that this was Eko's episode, I said "Cool!" One thing's for sure, he's a bad, bad man. He may be repetent and reborn now, but you definitely do not want to mess with this guy. You knew that his cross was going to be on the island as soon as his brother picked it out of the dirt, too. It will be interesting to see how they explain how a small twin engine plane ends up in the South Pacific when it took off from Nigeria! Then again, how does a polar bear or black stallion show up either?

I Tivo'd it and concur with FA on Walt's message. I also agree that it isn't Walt. My question is when are we going to see a little more about Walt's "gifts." Isn't he suppossed to be psychic or something?

That smoke thingy was pretty cool. How is it created? Why does it sound like a T-Rex mating with a mortar cannon? It's smoke and yet it can forcefully move branches and whole trees? What's up with that?

The only absolute answer I deducted from this episode:
That bottle of Ranch Dressing didn't deserve such a horrible fate. It didn't do anything to anybody! What a senseless waste of good condiment! Stop the madness!!! :D

ok, my super early, top 5,gangbusters, ballstothewalls, predictions are these (based on absolutely nothing but what i've watched so far and my own insanity, to be checked later once anything actually does happen, and if by any stretch of chance anyone actually involved in productions is watching this thread, then PLEASE im me and let me know if i'm right! and also send my headshot to JJ, i wanna be LOST!) -

1. Everything will come down to Walt, Locke, Echo and Aaron.
2. Kate will end up with Jack in a reveal of even more preposterous coincidences from their past to link up the "you will [believe in destiny]" comment from locke.
3. Claire will be the next to die leaving Charlie to help raise Aaron.
4. Kevin was killed by Desmond.
5. Locke will kill one of the regulars (maybe claire, not neccessarily with malice aforethought).

I was thinking about your predictions this morning (because it's Wednesday and all thoughts lead to Lost on Wednesdays :) ).

I have to disagree with #3. I don't think that Claire dies. The psychic was very adamant that Clair had to raise her baiybey. Going so far as to buy her a ticket for flight 815. The psychic knew what he was doing. So, I think that there will definately be an upcoming story line involving Claire and the Baiybey. But I don't think that death will be part of that story...at least not Claire's or Aaron's death. Perhaps we're not yet done with kidnappings by The Others. BWAAAHAAAAHAAAAA

There. Now you're down to 4 predictions....you're welcome. :D

ahhh i think you're right, forgot about the psychic episode... so i withdraw prediction #3... (unless it comes true, then i didnt 'really' withdraw it). :D

as far as mini-prediction go, i think we'll get an ever-so-slight glimpse into the Others tonight. that whole "this is not your island, this is our island" omniscient sounding voice coming from everywhere with the ring of torches around our castmates (in the preview at least). i think the computer message-er is an Other that's luring michael to their camp, and told him to come by himself. maybe because Michael is 'innocent'? and they want him to join their side?
who knows... but i'm sure we still wont after tonight! :D

I can't disagree with you there RL. I was disappointed in last week's episode. Aside from the interesting connection between Mr. Eko and the Island, not much substance IMO. It seemed even more disappointing after waiting so long for a new episode. I was psyched! ...and then let down.

I'm hoping for good things tonight. After such a great first season, I sure hope that season two gets better.

i think (hope) its a ramping up for some big stuff coming up now. i still liked the episode as it continues to follow the whole, dont-judge-too-quickly-until-you-learn-all-the-facts scenario building, albeit they havent done it as geniuss-ly as they did with the sun/jin reveals in their backstory in season one. that was brilliant.

He should have asked more questions instead of fighting.

Exactly Right Jack!...um...I mean Mike. ;) Guess you got your power back, eh?

That's exactly what I thought. What the hell was Jack being so defensive for? Okay, so the guy appears out of nowhere; knows their names; kidnapped Walt; shot Sawyer; and, apparently knows where Michael is ("Michael won't find us here"), but he was being quite cordial, I thought. And here's Jack being an anus. Instead, he should have at least started off nice and tried to get some information. If he wasn't successful, or if the bearded guy got threatening, then be an anus. But don't start out that way. I would have been asking a whole bunch of questions!

Most predictable moment: finding out that Kate followed them. Duh!

And why is Jack so quick to want to train an Army? The bearded man was pretty clear...don't cross the line and we'll leave you alone. So? Don't cross the line. I guess that would make for pretty boring TV though.

I've decided that I would like to see Kate and Sawyer hook up. Heck, if I can't have him then let me live vicariously through Kate. :D

My prediction is that Sayid and Ana-Lucia will hook up. They are very much the same. Sayid has his army background and AL has her cop background. They will work together to train the army and in doing so will gain a mutual respect for each other. How ironic when Sayid falls in love with the woman who killed Shannon. :)

This was a great episode. This is what I love about Lost. Forget the mysticism and the strange coincidences and the pictures in Monster Smoke. Let's just get down to great suspense and drama and human nature. It's the raw emotion that drags me in. This is the episode that they should have shown last week.

If I ran into some a-hole that has stolen a friend's son, I can guarantee you the last thing I'd be is cordial. I thought Jack's reaction was spot on. I don't think he asked that many questions because he really wasn't give the chance. The head Other was controlling the dialogue. This wasn't a discussion, this was instructions. He was giving them the rules, nothing more.

It was interesting that they did another backstory on Jack. BTW, was his wife the attorney from Boston Legal (another show I never miss)? It sure looked like her. Anywho, I wonder how Jack's obsession with fixing things will play into the storyline? Could the 'army' be his way of fixing the Others?

just kidding. the bearded guy warned jack and co to back off, and when jack refused, they showed that they had captured kate and would kill her if he didnt back off. so finally they drop their weapons and captain crunch tosses kate back to them. he points to the ground and says this is a line, and right now, all we have is a misunderstanding, but if you cross this line, well... then it wont be a misunderstanding any more.
back at the beach, jin is sitting watching the sunrise and sun comes out and asks him whats wrong. he replies he doesnt like being told what to do. she says back to him, for the past four years, i didnt like being told what to do either. (ah snap!) and he looks at her and nods his head, and says yeah, i suppose you didnt. and then he smiles (apologetically) at her and she smiles back and he shifts a little closer to her and they watch the sunrise together (awwww, nothing like 50 days on a strange magical island to help a marriage).
back with jack, locke is leading them to camp and kate is staring at jack, trying to talk to him and then just grabs him and demands a response out of him after saying sorry, and jack says, i'm sorry too. [(was there another flashback here? i think the final flashback was the chick from boston legal (yep it was her topspeed, she was also from Ed, the very adorable julie bowen) is putting the dishes away having had din-din with mommy, as jack comes home and confesses to her that a) the dude died and b) his ridiculously hot daughter kissed him and c) he kissed the ridiculously hot daughter back BUT d) he was going to change and stay at home and he was sorry and he would fix their life and be there for her and all that good crap in a very teary, heartfelt, and quite believable plea. after which julie bowen says, sorry jack but i'm leaving you (bam!), that's why my mom was here earlier, she was helping me pack (bam!). and they both cry and she leaves with the parting: you'll always have the need to fix something. (ahhh snap!)]
They reach the beach and then jack seeks out ana-lucia and sits down next to her and asks if she's a cop. she replies yes, well she used to be a cop. he asks her then, how long would it take to train an army...... (oooooo chills!)

and was it just me or did this episode FLY! the pacing was really fast. felt like every minute there was a commercial break it was moving so quickly!

i'd say jack wants to train an army because he knows what's coming (and also because the island is a microcosm of the world and how we probably could really all just get along if we'd just sit the hell down and talk plainly with each other).

James Ford: 'Satan's Ferryman' and 'Outlaw of Cave-in-Rock'
By JON MUSGRAVE
Southern Illinois History Page
If counterfeiters, river pirates and serial killers hadn't been enough for the region of Cave-in-Rock at the turn of the 19th Century, residents didn't have to wait long for another group to move in and take over the lucrative activities of their predecessors.
The Sturdivants replaced Duff in the counterfeiting business, and a man of wealth and prestige took up the reins of leadership dropped by Mason at his assassination. Although earlier historians have hedged their comments about James Ford, the overwhelming amount of evidence, seems to indicate he led the life of a Mafia don, or an even better description would be the Sheriff of Nottingham, except no Robin Hood ever arose to challenge him.
Following the decline of the pirates, another group of outlaws preyed upon travelers in the general vicinity of the Cave-in-Rock. Known as the Ford's Ferry gang, they took up where the pirates had left. Ford led this group, although from well behind the scenes. For the most part of his life, he acted to be inside the law, when in fact, he actively pursued life outside of it. For the first third of the 1800s, he served as a civic leader in both southeastern Illinois and western Kentucky. At one point he operated a tavern in Illinois, another time one of the saltworks near the Great Salt Springs or the Lower Lick as it would have been known in his time. He also served as a justice of the peace, sheriff and judge across the river. A ferry operator, he built and maintained long stretches of road on either side of his ferry just upstream from Cave-in-Rock. Even today, stretches of it can still be traveled in both states following county road signs that designate it "Ford's Ferry Road."
Earlier this century, Outlaws of Cave-in-Rock writer Otto Rothert became the first to seriously study the life of James Ford. His description of Ford is an apt one as he describes the situation in western Kentucky in the time Ford lived high on his plantation opposite McFarland's Tavern (Elizabethtown, Ill.) near Tolu, Kentucky:
"Outlaws were no longer in a position to carry on their depredations with the freedom that attended the earlier days. Population had increased, and with that increase came a better reign of law. The line between law-abiding and law-breaking citizens was rapidly widening. For about ten years, ending in 1833, Ford apparently stood between the two, and kept in close touch with both."
That year, 1833, saw the end of Ford as unknown vigilantes assassinated the civic leader with the iron grip on the law.
Legend has tied Ford to the James Wilson gang of pirates at the cave as well as to slave trader Lewis Kuykendall and kidnapper John Hart Crenshaw. Local historians such as Ron Nelson have discovered his ties to the Sturdivants.
Although some writers have described him as "Satan's Ferryman," his full story has never been told as it is still being discovered in documents forgotten in county court houses and state archives. Eventually his story will be told. Until then, read the books, "Outlaws of Cave-in-Rock," and "Satan's Ferryman."

interesting facts on james ford, but i have no idea how to connect that to the island...

on a side note, my online perusings have come across some more theories (unfortunately none of them mine, but very interesting)

1. Locke/ Sawyer connection - was locke's evil daddy the man that conned sawyer's family and caused his dad to kill the mom?

2. the glass eye found in the tailies' bunker - did they ever show captain crunch/zeke's both eyes? or was one always in shadow, could that glass eye be from the Others?

3. Jin will be the next to die?

4. zeke is degroot? (at least related to the dharma initiative with his quoting from Hanso, unless maybe this guy is Hanso?).

1. Not sure I buy this one. Think back to the guy that Sawyer shot, thinking that he was the guy that killed his parents. He was about the same age as Locke, I think. So him being Locke's Dad doesn't fly. Although I did find Locke's questioning of Sawyer's name very interesting

3. What fuels the theory that Jin will be next to die?

4. Again, I see age as an issue here. Wasn't Degoot an old guy? Older than Zeke looked?

I'm already starting to feel the need for Season Two on DVD so that I can go back for reviews.

i think most of them have been hurley's lines. he has really been hysterical on the show from the beginning. some favs:

I'm already starting to feel the need for Season Two on DVD so that I can go back for reviews.

yeah, i think there's SOME connection with sawyer/locke, just dont know what yet. not sure why they think jin will die next, but that seems to be a theory on two boards i perused over. the degroot thing i'm not sure about, because in the video, he looked to be about the same age as zeke did, if zeke is the same guy from the boat that took walt. but that could also be the whole thing of what's going on the island, no one ages. or maybe the others have found a fountain of youth type deal on their side of the island? now alvar hanso was definitely an older looking guy, but we never saw him other than that one sillouetted shot by the window, so he could be anyone... anyone at all... hmmmm....

So? What d'y'all think of last night? A bit of a snoozer for me. If everyone on this island goes religious on me, I'm going to lose faith ( ;) ) in the writers abilities to come up with fresh, original ideas. I'm not sure why...but the whole idea of religion in the story lines is beginning to feel like a bit of a cop out for me. They're going to have to find some pretty brilliant way to tie it all together if this just ends up being some sort of weird purgatory. I'd rather find out that this is all just a really bad, drug-induced, hallucination of Charlie's.

The only interesting thing that I noticed last night was in Charlie's very first dream sequence. On one of his hands (didn't note which one) he had white tape wrapped around the bottom of his fingers. Each finger had a letter written on it...F-A-T-E. I checked the following dream sequences but never noticed it again.

And...of course...the burning question is...why did Locke keep the statues?

Oh yeah, and Hurley asking Libby if they've met before. You know there's going to be a pre-island connection and it's not going to be Hurley stepping on her foot while they were boarding the plane. :)

Edit: I didn't pick up on this last night, but just found a picture on another site of the stuffed POLAR BEARS that were in the corners of the crib during the filming of the DriveShaft commercial. And while I'm thinking about it, is there irony in Charlie being in diapers and in a crib for the commercial, and his involvement with babies (his brother's and Claire's) in this episode?

Edit 2: My prediction is that Claire and her baby will be kidnapped by The Others. Now that they have both been baptized and their sins have been washed away, they are "good" and, therefore, worthy of The Others. Without the baptism, following the story line of Goodwin's comments about the Tailie (forget his name) who was not taken by The Others not being a good person, Claire (and possibly Aaron) may not have been "good". Although we don't know what defines "good". Is having a child out of wedlock "not good"?

...Me too...D@mn...get on with it already, patience is not my virtue...

As I recall, from what seems a million years ago...Charlie had that tatooed(?) on his fingers early on...they seemed to just make them more obvious last night...oooh, subtle...

I'd guess Locke has plans to use the H as some sort of weapon...but on whom???...(in my best Zacherley voice, with an appropriate, suspenseful, background score)...hooo, hooo, hooo, hooo...ha-ha!

Maybe the diapers are for the audience...we're all gonna' $h!t when they tie it all up in some lame-o manner.

Locke is definitely changing into a bit of a creep. Him striking down charlie was a bit much. Also, in charlie's early religious dream, when there was a crack in the sky, i thought TWO doves were seen flying out, one white, and one black, unless the black was just a shadow of the white one, but it seemed pretty dark to be just a shadow. i still think it's all going to come down to ecko/locke showdown of religion vs. spirituality. i actually enjoy the religious stuff since i've studied some of different religions and find the topic fascinating. like locke and the scar on his right eye and what that symbolizes (if anything).

also, with charlie and the "F-A-T-E" writing on his fingers, that's kind of his thing. in the first few episodes, we see him putting tape on his fingers and writing with a sharpie on the tape LATE first, then putting a piece of tape over the L and writing an F.
in the trailer for the next episode, they showed Sun getting kidnapped (by the Others?)

and dragged away with a hood over her face, RIGHT after it starts to rain with analucia warning to jack how comfortable they all are in thinking they are actually safe.

overall i liked the episode, last weeks was definitely better and faster paced too, but this one was good to see another backstory played out further, now connecting the other backstory we saw of charlie going to visit his brother in sydney at his house with the wife and daughter all cleaned up.

and also, i think libby was a doctor (or whatever she said before, behavioral psychologist) at the hospital where hurley was committed and that's their connection prior to the island.

Next week is a rerun. Those Lost people must just be exhausted after putting out three brand new episodes in a row. Whew, they've earned a well deserved break.

There was no trailer for next week in Canada (maybe because it's a rerun), but I was able to watch the US trailer on-line. It looks like another good episode!

I can totally see Locke becoming a problem. His attitude in yesterday's episode was certainly a change from his live and let live attitude of previous. Remember though that in his back story he was going to an anger management workshop. Maybe the stress of being on the Island is going to bring back some of that anger. It certainly looked that way last night as he was pummelling Charlie in the face.

It's kinda funny that it's raining in the next episode. Last night I was thinking about how the weather always seems nice there. Never a lot of rain or cold temps.

From one of the screen caps that I saw on another sight, the white and black was a dove and its shadow. http://lost.cubit.net/pics/2x12/dove.jpg

I also think that Libby was at the mental institution where Hurley was. I can't wait for that back story and to find out why he was there!

Hurley was in an institution? What for? I don't remember that at all.

Last night's episode bored me to tears. For one, Charlie annoys me so I really don't care about his back-story that much. The imagery, especially the dream sequence with his mom and Claire as angels/saints, was a bit over the top. I thought Locke's pummeling was completely appropriate. What would you do if your friend's newborn baby was stolen, twice no less, and you found a known drug addict with him walking out to sea? You guys must not have kids because if you did, I have a feeling you would react in much the same way. Plus, note how not a single person tried to help Charlie up, but instead looked at him with disgust/disappointment, and walked away.

So what are the theories with Locke keeping the statues and changing the combo on the safe? The trailer showed Jack yelling at Locke asking what he did with the guns. Maybe after the ambush, Locke is planning on taking the Others on by himself, Commando style? He is a bit of a loner after all.

In the trailer for the next episode, could anybody discern what was being said on the radio? I played it over and over, but couldn't make it out. Was it Walt? A primal scream? A polar bear and black horse singing Peaches and Herb?

hurley mentions it a couple times to jack, that he was in an institution, and in one of hurley's backstories. We see when he goes to visit the dude in the mental institution and hears him muttering the numbers first we think that he worked there or had another connection, but then in another episode he mentions that he was committed in a mental institution for a while, but then he got better.

yeah i can see where you're coming from on locke beating up on charlie being appropriate if those were the only issues involved. but given the fact that they're on an island that has mechanical smoke, polar bears, horses, reincarnated boars, a wandering frenchwoman, an ancient ship, a wandering australian, and a group of Others.... i'd give him a leeeeetle bit of leeway. i know locke was harsh on him when he brought up how noone doubted kate when she sees a horse or everyone else seeing Walt, which was reasonable too, given charlie's history as a heroin addict up until a few weeks ago basically. so... yeah, understandable that locke would go ballistic with charlie to get across the seriousness of him putting aaron in danger.

i couldnt catch anything on the radio either, sounded like static or something garbled. i defn couldnt pick it up. not sure why locke would keep the heroin other than he intends on using it himself (not on himself but for something else). i think locke is going to get the Other's hooked on heroin and then be their dealer! or he's going to use the heroin as another hold over charlie in the future. i think locke is going very anti-gun and will stop jack from using the weapons to go after the Others, maybe even have his own strategy as to how to go about defending themselves. He is definitely turning to the dark side and, at least now, coming off as a very dark character. i sense another locke backstory reveal coming up soon!

I never said that it wasn't appropriate (and well deserved!), only that it was a bit out of character for Locke.

LMAO!!

Next week's rerun episode is "Numbers". Is that the one where Hurley goes to the mental institution to see the guy who repeats the numbers over and over? I'll bet that there's a reason that they've chosen to air that particular episode....from season one, no less. Hmmmmm.

Did anyone else catch this or am I the only one that thinks it was odd? When Hurley and the "Tailly" were doing wash, she said something to the effect of "Boy these are some high-tech washers". I got to looking when they panned out for something, and they are either Kenmore or Maytag Hi-Efficency Washer/Dryer combo. Those are like BRAND NEW. Anything odd about a sealed quarentine room, with 1960-early 70 computer technology, and a 2004 or newer washer/dryer combo?

Does this lend more credence that the computer "numbers" thing is just psycholgical "testing". I think that it does. It is to give the appearance of some old experiment that has been going on for many years, and yet they have the latest in home cleaning tech.

yeah good catch, i was wondering about that too. anything that they make a deal about pointing out, generally comes back to have some sort of significance, they dont have many throwaways in the show. i'm waiting for the '20 year old us army issue knife' comment that ana-lucia made to come back up.
now if those dryers are even a year old... that means someone came down while desmond was down there and put in the new washer/dryer, unless they were put in when or right before he got there 3 years ago. speaking of which, where the heck is desmond? does he know about the others? and another week off before he next episode! and it looks like its gonna be a good one too! argh!

The newness of the washer and dryer was mentioned a while ago on one of the Lost discussion boards. The comment on the show has the people on the same board wondering if it was a "shout-out" to the fans who brought up the age of the appliances in the first place.

I think that there has to be some sort of interaction with the Swan Station and the outside world. Not only are the washer and dryer obviously new, but when Hurley was taking inventory of the food he said that there was enough food to feed one man three meals a day for three months. Desmond had been there for three years. I find it hard to believe that he started with a three year food supply! And what would happen to him when he ran out of food in three months? Someone still has a vested interest in making sure that button gets pushed. And that someone is supplying the Station with food and other necessities.

Woo hoo!
not sure if anyone else already knew this, but the repeat episode on wednesday will confirm the connection. with hurley's money, his accountaint mentions that they bought a box company in tustin. who on the island was a regional manager for a box company? none other than our locke.
and in the flashback, when hurley talks to the guy, Leonard, in the hospital about the numbers Leonard says, "You've opened the box! It won't stop. You've got to get away from them or it won't stop."

am beginning to think up an idea (that perhaps has already been posted on the other lost boards) but it goes something like this....

the numbers are along the lines of a reverse pandora's box. and hurley, once he unleashed them into the world, was drawn to the island, which pulls everything relating to the numbers to it. and that means everything. so anyone who was, in some way, remotely connected through the numbers to hurley was also pulled in to the island. and it's happenned several times over time, hence the black rock, the french woman, desmond, etc. just a theory that came to me, poke away!

So what you're saying is that Hurley is the newest ground zero for a massive cause and effect chain started when he used the numbers for the lottery. Six degrees of Kevin Bacon only Hurley is Kevin. Is that it?

An interesting theory that I will have to spend some time pondering.

pretty much, yeah. i think also, that the island/numbers casts its net out to bring in everyone realted to hurley's unleashing of the numbers, also happens to get 'lucky' with certain people it brings in, hence the strange connection and "special" comments about walt. which ties in to eko's comment, 'do not mistake fate for coincidence.' might even apply to the island itself.

So, after watching the rerun of Numbers tonight I picked up on where the numbers seem to originate from.

The wife of the guy who was partners with the guy in the mental institution (ya got that?) said that her husband was in the military and was monitering the radio (I assumed short wave) and heard the numbers come out of the static.

The French woman said that they heard the numbers on the ships radio and followed the transmission to the island where they found a radio tower. She eventually changed the transmission to her own SOS.

So, I was going to ask the question...do you think that the numbers are related to a Numbers Station? But as I was researching Numbers Stations on Wikipedia, I found this....

Film and television
Cameron Crowe also featured parts of the "Conet Project" in scenes of the movie Vanilla Sky. He said he used the station recordings to create a sense of confusion.

Numbers stations may be the inspiration behind the mysterious radio transmission in the Lost TV series.

Guess I'm not the first person to make this realization, eh.

Unrelated to Lost...a great soundbite about The Conet Project and numbers stations is here, if you're interested. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4167689

So, if this was a numbers station, it opens a whole new can of questions. Do spies fit anywhere into our existing theories? What are the ramifications of having the Transmission changed? What does the transmission actually mean and who is/was it intended for? What is the connection between the transmission of the numbers and using those same numbers to reset the 108 minutes? Is having the transmission changed the "incident"????????

now that's some interesting stuff! good finds!! the two things that both kind of fit in with the whole 'dont use the computer for anything other than inputting the numbers' (well, prolly a thousand things that fit, but heres two)
1. it really is an experiment, and so any other use of the computer would contaminate the data. kinda like a DBT taken to the ultimate extreme.
2. if its along your lines and its a number station, then that also might explain the huge electromagnetic source, because they would need this to broadcast the signal via radio waves, right? but then if they are broadcasting a spy code out, where is it going out to? who is on the receiving end? the spy idea also ties in with the US army 25 years ago reference. the cold war. maybe at the height of paranoia this station was created?

ah... more questions. everything's back to normal. :)

You know everytime that I go back to season one, I discover more clues and great stuff. Season two, in comparison, has been pretty lame.

What does DBT mean?

So, some thoughts on computers and meeting The Others. We know that The Others have a computer. And we know that computer can communicate with the computer in the Swan bunker. So, can The Others communicate with the outside world? Before the plane crash, were The Others in control of the Swan? Is that how they got a new washer and dryer and more food for Desmond? And if that's true, why give up the bunker so easily? Is the place that they live even better, so giving up the Swan is no great loss? Or, are they just glad to be rid of the responsibility of the 108 minute button?

Could the Swan and the button be used as punishment for The Others? Perhaps Calvin was an Other and exiled to The Swan for doing something wrong? When Desmond came along, he had companionship and Desmond just got lured in with stories of what would happen if the button wasn't pushed. That would explain why Desmond ran off when the Lostaways showed up (escape). And why we haven't seen or heard from him since. Perhaps he's with The Others. Then again, if they exiled Calvin there as punishment, could they trust him to stay and push the button? It's a pretty comfy place and would be quite attractive over taking his chances alone in the jungle. Or, do the leaders know that the button is just a scam and so it doesn't really matter?

Just thinking out loud...

More meanderings...I really need to get to work!!!

When I was reading up on Numbers Stations, the theory is that the transmissions happen at regular intervals or at pre-scheduled times. So, maybe putting the numbers into the computer every 108 minutes is the backup for the radio transmission. It fits the bill of regular transmissions. Or maybe it's not a backup but it's another form of numbers station generated by computer instead of shortwave radio. As civilians, we don't know that shortwave is the only means of getting these messages out. Maybe they're also sent out from one computer to another (or to several).

So, if the code is missed being input into the computer that would mean something to someone. It would start a chain of events that would lead to....I don't know....something.

I keep thinking about this Al Stewart song called Night Train To Munich, about spies during the coldwar. The first few verses and chorus are...

Meet me at the station underneath the clock
Carry an umbrella, no need to talk
The man in the homburg, hiding in the fog
Will be watching

Get yourself a ticket, go through the gate
At seven forty-five precisely, don't be late
If anybody follows don't hesitate
Keep on walking

And take the night train to Munich
Rumbling down the track
After half an hour in the restaurant car
Look for the conductor
And there will be a stain on his tunic
A paper underneath his arm
Then you'd better pray that he doesn't look away
Or you'll never, never, never come back.

So maybe if they don't type the code into the computer, the Conductor will look away (metaphorically speaking).

dbt = double blind test, where basically to insure accurate results that arent tainted by either the subject knowing what the a/b switching might be, and the person doing the switching between a/b doesnt know what they are either. i.e. if you're trying to test between coke and pepsi, the subject obviously doesnt know which cup contains what, but also the other person also doesnt know which cup contains coke or pepsi so that they dont influence the decision at all either (i think, i might be wrong but i think thats the basics).
i dont think the Others have been in the swan station. as much as the others claim this as their island, i think there's another force at work. desmond was certainly paranoid enough after the explosion to the hatch, and the station is set up to monitor all the entrances from one point with all those mirror/periscope thingys. so the station, as was also stated, is meant for just two people. desmond and calvin. now when desmond arrived, he said (trying to remember) they brought me here and calvin was already down here, or something to that effect, have to go back and watch that episode. which 'they' brought him, the others? the remains of dharma? (or greg, haha, sorry, that was horrible but i couldnt resist) the us army? i dont think desmond is an other as much as he was drawn to the island by the numbers and then stuck down there just like the losties are now. and in the three years he was down there, calvin died/was killed/murdered/etc? but in the three years he was down there, someone/something brought them food because of the hurley comment. Unless, the only other stretch was they had enough foor for 3 years and 3 months and that food really was the last of everything that was in the bunker. plus i dont think the others are in any of the bunkers. or at least any bunker with soap and water capabilities. desmond was certainly in fine enough shape, and the first thing kate did was take a shower (sulpher comment there might mean something too).
ugh.

ok, now this is cool stuff. that coincides exactly with what is seemingly going on in the bunker. i think they need to ask a few more questions, especially to danielle and desmond. OH WAIT! Thought just popped into my head as i was typing...

danielle told sayid (or hurley?) that they were brought to the island by the numbers. by a radio transmission that was sending the numbers out!! they followed it to this island, and she went and changed the transmission to her signal! so that means the island is NOT sending the #'s out every 108 minutes now? but is sending her signal out? for the past 16 years? with no one ever hearing it, which could mean that whoever is on the receiving end of that signal is no longer there, or is laughing there butt off as to how this experiment is proceeding (thinking out loud too now). the losties need to find that antennae. like charlie said... "Where are we?" that number had been sent out via the antennae prior to the french woman's crash there. then after everyone died, she switched it to her signal. so that means by the time desmond got on the island, the numbers were not being transmitted out. at least not by THAT antennae.
they should be able to figure out where they are right? how far do radio signals travel? we could get a radius of where they might be... i.e. if they are in a circle of say 500 miles, then how many 500 mile circles are there in the world where there is no human contact? or at least no human with a radio? assuming that the rest of the world still exists, or that they are even on this world.
hmm.... the hamster wheel in my head is spinning...

and yeah, season 1 was definitely stronger. the denoument of this season better pick up and salvage the season with a major WTF. it feels like its been a little slow this season, which i think might be (hopefully) because its gonna kick into high gear. i think season 2 is gonna end at the eve of a war between the others and the losties

It's funny, when I was watching last nights episode I too realized how much better season one was.

It was interesting to realize that Locke had a prior relationship with Claire, before Charlie was really in the picture. Building the crib was a really sweet gesture and it kind of ties together how he's somewhat protective, in a fatherly sorta way, of Claire and Aaron now.

OK, so the numbers are cursed. They were being broadcast from this island and everyone that has heard them has suffered severe misfortune. Hurley, the insane dude (Sam?), the insane dude's Aussie friend in the military, and the French gal. Don't mistake luck for fate, eh? The show has kind of gotten away from it's cryptic nature, such as the numbers, and has gone for more straight forward story lines via losties vs. others. I, for one, prefer the mystery.

Not necessarily. We don't know how often the radio transmission of the numbers was being sent out. It might have been every 108 minutes, but it might not have been. We only know that it WAS sending out the numbers and not it's not. And we know that the numbers have to be typed into the computer every 108 minutes approximately. Because the numbers in the computer are a manual input, the time cannot be exact every time. The alarm starts sounding with 4 minutes left. So the numbers are input somewhere between every 104 and 107.59 minutes. Although it is interesting (and fits the numbers station theory) that the numbers cannot be input before the alarm goes off.

with no one ever hearing it, which could mean that whoever is on the receiving end of that signal is no longer there, or is laughing there butt off as to how this experiment is proceeding (thinking out loud too now).

That's a good point...is there anybody listening?

Another good point. Why aren't they looking for the radio tower anymore? Last night she told Hurley that it was near the Black Rock. They found the Black Rock (it's where they got the dinomite to blow open the hatch) but why didn't they look for the radio tower? Or did they and something happened that I've forgotten?

I too am hoping that the season picks up in the second half. I think that all of these reruns are having a dragging effect on the stories also, which is certainly not helping. We had better see some solid consecutive weeks of good story lines coming up.

The only thing that doesn't jive here is Desmond. So far, we don't have a connection with him and the numbers. The only connection we have is that he and Jack once crossed paths, but that was at least three years ago, based on the fact that he had been in the bunker for three years prior to Jack's arrival.

so.... does the war begin tonight? sun is kidnapped (it seems) from the trailer at least. and the rain/the others connection? is there one?

are the others linked somehow to the climate of the island? i hope they get back to the mystical nature of the island and maybe get a little distance from the concrete scientific explanations of things, the way its been heading.

any case.... excited! new episode!!! woo hoo!!!

On the Canadian preview, Kate and Sawyer are standing under a tarp in the rain and the preview made it look like they were about to kiss (but of course we know that the previews are misleading) only to be interupted by Sun's scream. Sawyer and Kate run towards her and rescue her. Kate tells Jack that Sun's hands were tied together. Is it The Others? For some reason, I think that it's something else...not The Others. Don't ask me why, just a hunch.

Zeke promised that they would leave the Lostaways alone if they stay on their own side of the island. So, why would they now break that promise and try to kidnap Sun? It just doesn't make sense to me. There's something else going on here IMO.

As for The Others and the rain...the rain would wash away any tracks.

Looks like I called that one right. Although, I did not see that powershift to Sawyer coming. However, it all makes perfect sense that Sawyer would want to get back at Jack and Charlie at Locke. Will Sayid go over to their side for the opportunity to get even with Ana Lucia? Where will Locke land, he's not a big fan of either Jack's or Sawyer's. And where has our friend Mr. Echo been hiding the past couple of weeks? It's going to get interesting now that our group are turning on each other. The experiment takes a wild turn. :D

There was no preview for next week here. Fill me in, fill me in! :(

its all a blur now! crap... ok... oh OH!! that's what it was, they have some trap left in the woods, and somebody springs it, they all rush over... and its none of them... they catch one of the Others!he has some arrowhead sticking out of his shoulder as they start to ask him questions, and they show sayid all serious with his 'i am a torturer' line to the guy, and then locke or jack saying, 'what are you going to do to him' and then sayid slamming the door to the room in his face to leave him alone with the Other dude. all the while.... the countdown is happening and jack pins locke to the wall and says, what's going to happen locke! and... 'lets see what really happens!" and then we see the counter go... 0002, 0001, 0000!!!!!!!!!!!
argh!!!!!!

Of all the things in tonite's episode, the one thing that really stood out to me was Hurley's question about the Sentimental Mood broadcast they were picking up. He asked "and what time" (or something like that). You just KNOW this is going to come up somewhere. This island has a way of ignoring time. How else do you explain the Pirate ship or the crashed plane that started out in Africa?!? "Time" is going to factor into this, watch.

Great backstory on Sawyer tonite. He takes self-loathing to a whole different level. I didn't see the Charlie connection coming, but as I've mentioned before, I never did like that weasel. Now I don't like him even more. Fracturing the surviors into two tribes (hey, is that Jeff Probst riding the polar bear?) is a very cool twist. Here I thought it was going to be the survivors vs. the others. Now the Others can pull up a chair, pop open a cold one, and watch everyone around them disintegrate. Get the feeling they knew this would happen ;)?

Yeah, I caught that comment from Hurley too. It also made me wonder.

Go to this site http://www.lostlinks.net/ and click on the One Of Them link under "Next On Lost". It will show the trailer for next week's episode. When you see the person that's captured... a face though the net...I think it's Desmond! Watch the link closely and tell me what you think.

Edit: Screen caps from another site. Definately looks like Desmond to me.

Edit2: I just read on another site that the waitress in the restaurant where Sawyer and his partner met, was Kate's mom. Another pre-crash link.
