The sad reality is that people with enough wealth to construct a dedicated home theater usually plan with a fixed budget. Construction costs are guaranteed to exceed original estimates in time and money. The last thing that that goes into the home theater is the electronics. BUT since the original budget is fixed, its almost always the home theater equipment portion of the budget that is cut because the rest of the fixed budget was spent on the construction of the space. That scenario happens more often than not.

And the title to this article is misleading because $344k will buy a car in California but it definitely isn't enough to buy a house! ;)

Exactly what I was going to point out: if you had a house in CA, your second mortgage couldn't buy the Krell.

Ou there we have kids running around with car stereos that cost more than their cars. You can hear them booming and bumping all night long.

Why should this be any different?

I scrounged pennies for months so I could buy a $175.00 NAD 3020 back in my college days.

The high school kids across the street drive up in 2005 Chevy Suburbans ($45k) with Giovanni Chrome 24" wheels/tires ($4k) and a mobile entertainment system worth about $6K.

They they don't even have a high school diploma!

But That home theater stuff is nice to fanticize about.

Nah, you should cash in on your equity, throw caution and sense to the wind, and buy that dream system!!
