Have a chance to get a good deal on some Canadian records. (mostly classic rock '60s and '70s) I imagine they're the same quality as American pressings?

Thanks!!!

sometimes, but often not. Don't ask me why. However, this may be less of an issue with old rock records where you can tolerate a bit of noise and they tend to be pretty compressed.

Give it a shot. I'm sure that it tends to be label specific.

Pretty good discussion on this topic recently over at the Vinyl Asylum. Here's the link: http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/m.pl?forum=vinyl&n=259232&highlight=canadian&r=&session=

Not always. I found that the quality of the vinyl on the Canadian pressings is usually more consistent than with some U.S. pressings, but the transfers are not always the best. I bought a bunch of Canadian pressings several years ago because the U.S. labels phased out vinyl sooner than their Canadian subsidiaries did. I thought they were well pressed with minimal surface noise, but the sound quality just didn't seem to have as much punch as their U.S. counterparts (most of my purchases were Columbia jazz recordings, and I was comparing the Canadian pressings with earlier U.S. pressings of other recordings by the same artists). As indicated in that AA thread, it seems like the Canadian pressings had a "warmer" sound. It's a tradeoff, but at that time I was buying vinyl more because I could find it for cheaper than CDs, not for purist sound quality reasons.

Seems like many agree there is a difference. What made me ask is that I bought a Canadian copy of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon awhile back. Although it seems to be in excellent condition, the sound does seem to be on the overly warm and boring side. Bass is a little out of control. Wasn't sure if it was just me or what. Decided to pass on buying more Canadian classic rock records. (no offense to Canadians!!!)
