Alrighty now, it's time to step up to the plate and give us your favorite(s) LOL, pee your pants, spit out your drink, turn blue in the face movie comedy. I woulda made this a poll, but I didn't have enough choices. That's why I'm askin' here folks - need some suggestions for big laughs.

I remember laughing out loud several times the first time I saw There's Something About Mary.

P.S - Low-brow/sophmorish humour is indeed welcomed and encouraged.

Way too many to list them all.

Blazing Saddles almost put me into a comma the first time I saw it.
Wedding Crashers was a hoot too.
Anything by Monty Python
The road trips by Bob Hope & Bing Crossby
All of Abbott & Costello
Bruce Almighty

More to come.

Man, no matter how many times I watch MY COUSIN VINNY it makes me crack up; the scene when he walks into the courtroom in that tuxedo makes me bust a gut every single time. I always had a soft spot for the Naked Gun films and the Airplane!'s; I used to enjoy the POLICE ACADEMYS and was thinking of buying that box set of all the films, but realized it was gonna be a waste of money as those dont really crack me up anymore....

Some offbeat comedies that were good were also BRAIN DONORS and STEWARDESS SCHOOL, if anyone has ever seen those....I still enjoy the REVENGE OF THE NERDS and its sequel, as well.

Comedy is a massive hole in my film collection; it really takes something special for me to say "I enjoyed a comedy......" The Bird Cage was pretty good and stands the test of time. So does JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY and SPACEBALLS.

And what about OFFICE SPACE? That makes me laugh every time, too.

Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. Not only was it freakin' hilarious the first time I saw it, it is funnier every time I watch it than I remember it as being. (It is also interesting in that it is depressing while being hysterically funny, with the film being more funny the more depressing it gets; the only other film I can think of like that is Monty Python's Life of Brian, which is probably my second choice for this category. The Criterion edition of Life of Brian has some great deleted scenes that are so good they should have been left in the film.)

My two favorites right now would be Rush Hour 2 and Meet the Parents. I saw both at the theater and all I can remember is the laughter coming from myself and the audience. I watch Rush Hour 2 maybe once every other month and I still laugh. The scene where Chris Tucker is doing the Michael Jackson impersonation is Hilarious.

There's Something About Mary is a clear choice. How 'bout:

Real Genius (Val Kilmer and enough one liners that you'll have to watch it twice to catch them all)
M*A*S*H (movie, not tv series)
Rat Race
Young Frankenstein (That's Frahn-ken-shteen! Peter Boyle, Gene Hackman, cigar. 'Nuff said.)
Fish Called Wanda
Orange County (Jack Black is classic in this)
Stripes \
Caddyshack > This triumverate represents the pinnacle of SNL
Animal House /
Anchorman (this is iffy, but I'll admit it killed me the first time I saw it. Steve Carell is wicked funny)

These 3 keep getting mentioned - for obvious reasons.
Blazing Saddles
Slim Pickens at the toll booth in the desert, "Go ride back to camp and git a whole sh!tload of dimes"

Animal House
Dean Wormer to Flounder, "Son, fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life."

The Naked Gun
Detective Drebin drinks too much water at the press conference and goes to the men's room with his clipon mike still live.

Some others that I haven't seen in too long:
A Thousand Clowns
Jason Robards (yes) in a great comedy from the mid 60's

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
... a cup of mare's sweat...

The Return of the Pink Panther
I'm not sure of the title, but it is the one where Inspector Clouseau and Cato destroy his Paris apartment.

Here's my list:

Airplane - "I am serious, and don't call me Shirley!" I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as when I saw this movie the first time. The genius of Airplane is in how it just keeps throwing gag after gag at the viewer, much like the classic Tex Avery MGM cartoons went with a simple formula of cramming 30 gags into 8 minutes. Even if one gag is a groaner, it won't matter because the pacing is so frantic that two or three more gags will have passed before you even have time to think. I read that the directors of this movie felt that comedy was about pacing and momentum -- don't give the audience time to think it out or stop laughing, just keep the gags coming and they'll go giddy and practically laugh at anything by the end of the movie. The other thing to consider is that this movie single handedly buried the disaster movie genre for over a decade, which dominated much of the 70s. IMO, THAT'S the mark of a great comedy/satire. Other movies that the directors/writers of this movie have collectively or individually created such as Top Secret, Kentucky Fried Movie, Naked Gun, Hot Shots, and Ruthless People -- are also great comedic movies in their own right.

Blazing Saddles - "It's twue! It's twue!"

Drunken Master 2 (aka Legend of the Drunken Master) - Jackie Chan's 1994 masterwork. Some hilarious comedic sets sandwiched between jawdropping stuntwork and physical comedy. The reedited and dubbed U.S. version is absolutely horrible -- it completely messes up the comedic elements, particularly the family interactions. Some of the better video independent stores will have the original Hong Kong version, which leaves the comedic genius of Chan intact.

The Tex Avery MGM cartoon shorts - This is practically a category into itself. Avery created some of the most side-splittingly hilarious stuff ever. Red Hot Riding Hood is one of the funniest bits ever put to film (and in fact, Red was drawn so hot that the cartoon caused riots overseas during WWII when it was shown to femme-deprived GIs) and served as the inspiration behind The Mask. Other classics include Swing Shift Cinderella, The Cat That Hated People, What's Buzzin' Buzzard?, King-Sized Canary, North by Northwest Hound, etc. A theater I used to frequent in L.A. showed Avery's classic short Rock-A-Bye-Bear before every feature, and it soon turned into an audience participation extravaganza akin to Rocky Horror Picture Show with the audience tuned into every line and every sight gag in the cartoon. I would tear up from laughing so hard every time I saw that.

I skimmed over everything quickly so this may have been stated previously, by far the absolute most gut wrenching laughing induced comedy by far for me was LIAR LIAR.

Many good ones already mentioned. Dr. Strangelove "There's no fighting in here, this is the war room.

Airplane and the drinking problem as he throws the drink in his own face. I also like parts of the sequel --- William Shatner's role toward the end was rather funny. He is strong comedic talent.

Young Frankenstein is probably Mel Brooks's best film "Abe Normal - I do think that was the name on the jar" (from the brain depository) --- but I'll add "The Producers" from Mel "Springtime for Hitler and Germany" Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel and Mars were all stellar.

My Cousin Vinny when at a restaurant they ponder over what to order and on the menu it says
Breafast
Lunch
Dinner
(that scene makes me laugh)

Planes Trains and Automobiles - "you sure play with your balls alot" After Candy has broken the seat in the car Martin's face gets pushed up againt the dash glass as the electric passenger seat pushes him forward "wel this is really comfortable"

Slapshot "hit him the ribs let em know your there, drill em in the boards let em no your there......aside bleed all over them let em know your there. The Hansen Brothers(nough said)

There's Something about Mary and American Pie had several moments that were quite funny as does the new "The 40 Year Old VIrgin" Audiophile may get a kick out of all the loser folks as they work in what is supposed to be the equivelant of a Best Buy,

Some good choices here so far. I will add Anchorman as far as a newer release goes. Zoolander is pretty good too. I see some people recommending some Monty Python stuff, and that is great. If you like the british comedy shows, you should try out Red Dwarf. One of the funniest shows ever made.
