I just bought a Belkin HDMI cable for my universal ~ tv interface. However, when I switched over to DirecTV, their HD stb came packaged with an HDMI cable. Now, I'm not a big proponent of paying extravagent amounts for wire, but I do believe you should use better cables than the generic stuff that is normally packaged. Of course, those are analog while this is digital. It's all 1's and 0's, right? Therefore, it either gets there or it doesn't, correct? Is there any reason the Belkin HDMI cable should outperform the generic one? Before you say "try them both and decide for yourself," understand that my player is in a custom cabinet and switching cables is a major operation.

Thanks for your input.

Digital transmission can have jitter problems due to cable loss, but I doubt you'll have any problem with a 10' piece. I'd use the free one. If it doesn't work, then I'd complain to DirectTV, but I'm pretty sure they send out good enough cable just to prevent bumps in their service rep.
