View Full Version : Connected bands/artists comp
Just running this idea by you guys (it may have been done already, though). A comp of bands and solo artists with three or four tracks back-to-back that connect the bands or individual/former members of those bands. The line-up might go like this for a 3-track connected artist comp (tracks 1-3 are related to each other only, 4-6 same thing, etc.)
1. Yardbirds
2. Led Zeppelin
3. The Firm
4. Santana
5. Journey
6. Neil Schon
7. ELO
8. Traveling Wilburys
9. George Harrison
10. Spock's Beard
11. Transatlantic
12. Neil Morse
13. Rick Wakeman
14. Yes
15. Buggles
Some other suggestions? Would anyone be interested in a copy of a comp like this?

Here's a few that come to mind for me... not all of them i'd be able to actually connect with my collection though....
Allman Brothers -> Oteil Burbridge & the Peacemakers -> Aquarium Rescue Unit
Allman Brothers -> Warren Haynes -> Gov't Mule
Grateful Dead -> Bob Weir & Ratdog -> Bruce Hornsby
Widespread Panic -> Brute -> Vic Chesnutt
Bela Fleck & the Flecktones -> New Grass Revival -> Strength in Numbers
Phish -> Oysterhead -> Primus (or the Police)

That's a great idea, Poopsie. But you know what I'd like even better? A comp of derivative bands and the bands who influenced them. We're always talking about enoesque bands (well, Davey is, anyway) and others modern bands who were heavily influenced by Bowie, etc...
It would be nice to hear student and mentor back to back to see if I could pick out the influences.

Hey, that's a good idea. I can easily do a Beatley comp, in fact, I already did a year or so ago, called it "Fab Tracks". However, I've tried mixing some Beatles tracks along with some power poop bands and it didn't flow all that well. But, yeah, the derivative idea is cool. How about rock bands with a major jazz influence?

Damn, that would be one stinky-ass comp. And believe me, I am an expert on stinky-ass comps.

Why, because there is no Cowboy Yodeling?
Actually it would be a pretty good comp in my house.

Wow, a 7-year-old thread! I remember PowerPopGuy. He sent me the very first CD-comp I ever received, back in the Golden Age of comp-trading. Plus Snowbuns, Jar, Tug... I'm getting all nostalgic here.
I wonder if you could do an entire comp with a single chain of interrelation...
King Crimson -- Robert Fripp -- Bill Bruford -- Yes -- Genesis -- Peter Gabriel -- Tony Levin -- Terry Bozzio -- Frank Zappa -- Clarke/Duke -- Billy Cobham -- Miles Davis -- Coltrane -- Cannonball Adderly -- Bill Evans -- etc.
Or, you could take the King Crim chain in the direction of Adrian Belew -- Talking Heads -- David Byrne -- Brian Eno -- Daniel Lanois -- Neil Young -- Crazy Horse -- ??

That'd be a hell of a comp...
good ol' PwrPopGuy - one of the few original members that refused to let this place jade him (of course, most of us were already jaded before we got here). He popped in once as Klaatu76 and then maybe one other time afterward...
I wonder why he never migrated over to Audio Karma? They talk '70s AOR over and over and over, you know, redundant. I can't do that.
Think I'll go see if there's a Yes thread over at PE.
