View Full Version : Departure Dirty Words?

Hey all you hip and British not-so-indie lovers of that dark guitar driven Joy rock, is there any verdict yet on the new Departure debut? Too many fish in the pond? Maybe not yet if you just consider the ones that are doing something special? I know Mike has been keeping tabs a lot closer than myself and has turned me on to lots of the Bravery and Bloc Party and the rest, and those are some very good ones. But this debut has really peaked my interest so I went ahead and ordered it from cd-wow.us since it isn't out here in the US yet and couldn't find info on when it might be. Should have it soon, but thought I'd give it a mention since I just saw a pretty nice review for it today at PopMatters (http://popmatters.com/music/reviews/d/departure-dirtywords.shtml) and so guess it's not too big of a risk.

Remember the days when we used to post all those discount coupons at all the internet music sites and then tell what we just ordered? Hehehe, what a bunch of goofy nerds you all used to be, eh?

Ouch! Just hope I'm never as jaded a listener as that guy :)

Thanks for the link, I didn't know that Head of Femur had a new one out and sounds like it's a good one. Haven't been over to Stylus in awhile. The reviews seem kind of erratic, without much of a common goal or feel to unify them and give the site a more singular view on music. Not much to latch onto for me because they rave about some stuff I like and totally pan others I like equally. Must be me ;)

Been listening a lot to the last British Sea Power and really starting to get into it. Very slow grower for me this time, but the tortoise is now coming on strong. Sorry I missed your Tuesday thread. You don't start many of those, huh?

I think that's the reason I like the site (although I certainly don't read all the reviews) - that is, it doesn't feel so contrived as some other sites.

No, I don't start many, but it is one of the few things around here (in addition to the 10 or 15 regulars) that seems to be a constant, and a couple weeks had been missed. I've had enough going on that I haven't even been trying to keep track of what I listen to, but I like seeing what other people are spinning.
