Hi, I am looking to upgrade my sistem.
I am thinking for a new cd player or a subwoofer.
I need upgrade that will really UPGRADE my sistem.
I have a small room 3.5x3.5m.
My Gear:
Rotel Pre RC-972.
Rotel Power RB-971MKII.
CD Player Very Old Denon DCD-1000.
Speakers AR.COM's.
Cables Monster Cable Interlink 400 MKII.
Speaker Cable Cable.
My question is : What should i upgrade First?
I have 400$ to spend.
Thank you.

For a budget of US$400, The first thing I will do the upgrade your system is get a good pair of speaker stands, and position those speakers optimally. Next, I will get me a decent subwoofer and relief those speakers of deep bass duties. Leave the amplification and source alone, and concentrate on getting the best out of your existing speakers.

I think TAH is right.

Alex, you can build a pretty good sub for under $250 and put the rest towards quality stands. There's more than a few people with your DIY's that have built some subs, you should have a few options.

If you already have stands and that's just a gear shot, get an even better sub. I think you'll notice the most improvement going this route rather than adding a new amp or cd player.

Speaker positioning is your first priority - I can't see where the other speaker is in your picture but it appears as though ytou have at least raised the speakers with some sort of spikes(mini tenderfeet).

I don't know much about the AR.coms but many speakers have a specific height recommendation which should be followed. Not just to have the tweeter at ear level but many factor in floor bounce and bass as well as reflected versus direct waves - positioned incorrectly and picky speakers can get severely coloured due those room relfections hampering the initial design. You may also get significantly more bass depending on the speaker's positioning curtailing the necessity of a subwoofer in your small room. Especially if you can not put the sub in a good location they may as well be those old Brits in Red uniform in the Monty Python battles "shoot me I'm over here" will be the subs : "listen to me I'm over here" -- the last thing you want in a subwoofer.

Thank you...
I can not place a stand in my room becouse my room is too small.
This is the only place for speakers.
I want 10" driver that will be great for music, and Sub Amp i will buy at ebay.
So what 10" driver will be the best?

Cheaper is not always better. Just don't expect that little amp to deliver a whole lot.

N.Abstentia I agree cheaper is not always better ,but I find my 8" DALHQUIST digital bash amp faster than my Paradigm PS 1000 10" discrete amp .Pat.P

N.Abstentia The woofer moves faster to the beat on some of my music .Takes less power to push the 8" sub.I dont know but the digital amp are supposed to be a better amp than the other class .The Paradigm as more power yes but to fast music it not as good.Pat.P

Alexperl dont think so ,you ask our opinion and we replied .You have nice equipments a sub wont help you if its not position at right place and if your speaker cant go on stand because you have no room its a lost cause .Pat.P

Subs to me are less than ideal as it is and not positioned correctly makes it worse.

I don't know much about the speakers but they may just not put out very much tuneful bass. Your room is really cramped and I have for whatever reason found superior bass to come when in large rooms. Even my 12X15 or so room doesn't give the bass impression that I can get in the bigger living room.
