As has been stated so often in the past, speakers are very subjective. The best advice I can give you is to audition as many speakers as you can and choose the $800 speakers which sound best to you.

I'm not familiar with the deftech speakers you mentioned. Are they towers? Are towers what you are looking for? If yes, you might want to look at the B&W 603 S3 towers. I've not heard them but I've heard the 602 S3's which are in the same series. They are very nice speakers; I would expect the 603 S3's to go lower and sound fuller.

If towers are not essential, in the $800 range, I really like Paradigm Reference Studio 20's. They MSRP for $800 but you might be able to get them from an authorized dealer for under $700. They are small but have a decent bass and are very robust for their size; neutral and accurate IMO.

Other very nice sounding speakers which are probably in your price range: JMLab Chorus S series speakers and Monitor Audio Bronze series speakers. I've never heard them but I understand that PSB Image series speakers sound good.
