I'm close to buying one of these receivers but I'm not sure which one is better.

Pioneer VSX-815 (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4153_209695979,00.html)or
Yamaha HTR-5850 (http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/HTIB/HTR5850.htm)

I currently have a Pioneer receiver and I haven't been very pleased. Lacking power even though it claims its 100w per channel and the remote is extremely frustrating. However this new model has MCACC which is amazing for the price and includes a nice universal remote. I just don't want to get burned by pioneer again.

I've never used a Yamaha before but I've heard great things.

I really need someones advice here.

Thanks.

I have nothing but great things to say about Yamaha also. I truely love mine. But I can't help thinking that your problems with Pioneer may have been the exceptions instead of the rule. I have a 20 year old Pioneer that still sounds like it did when I took it out of the box. Which one sounds better to you?

I went by best buy but their setup is horrible. Nothing was connected. Also I don't know if I should trust how it sounds in the store...it will be completely different at home on my speakers.

Is there a tweeter near you? Here is their link if you are not sure. http://www.twtr.com/ireye/ir_site.zhtml?ticker=twtr
See if you can get to hear them. Otherwise, I vote for the Yamaha. I doubt that there is a big difference between the two.
