Got my American version (LAVA) of the new Porky Tree release yesterday (recall that I've had the European release for a few weeks).............the difference is a hidden track.......and it's a good one too.

Nine tracks are listed on the back cover -- the ninth song is 5 or 6 minutes long.

However at 11 minutes of the 9th track we actually get a 10th song........kewl.

I picked mine up the other day too (in Canada)...

All in all, I like it after the first few listens....gonna take some time...I'm not as immediately shocked as I was with Signify or In Absentia, but could be that I know the band better now...
There's been way too much hype here about this album.

Really! Here as in this forum or here as in Canada.

I don't think it's been talked about that much at RR.

I got my copy in the mail yesterday as well and I'm spinning it for the first time as I type this. I'll give it more scrutiny on the big rig when I get home from work.

Here as in the Forum..This release has been talked about more than any other release on RR before I believe, if not, it'd be pretty close. Just shows people are into these guys (including myself)

I don't mean it in a bad way, I just hope I hope I haven't come to expect so much that nothing could satisfy.

There's relatively high expectations for Deadwing compared to their other releases everywhere by the looks of things - I've seen posters in some shopping mall music stores that tend to stick more with MTV/Radio mainstream stuff. I think they've delivered again, as my first impression is this is great stuff...I'm not as critical as some though, it's all good. I just worry that if it doesn't meet unrealistic expectations, particularly with PT's fanbase after the awesome job on In Absentia, disappointment might cloud judgement on an otherwise solid album.

DVD-A comes in next week...(yeah I ordered both).

I was dropping a hint as to the source of the hidden track. I didn't know if you were aware of that and didn't want to spoil anybody's surprise.

Well, maybe I already did.

Mine was Amazon too..........maybe you will receive it today.

DarrenH:
I knew I'd heard it before (duh!)
A friend of mine had recently burned me a copy of a CD that had 2 cuts from the new album and some bonus tracks from other PT European releases.......believe it or not, one song was recorded from a Polish radio show (and it sounds decent)......so I first thought that the bonus hidden track on DEADWING, although I knew I had heard it before, was probably one of those European bonus tracks..............NOT.

I'll get my copy of LIGHTBULB out of the dusty cabinet and give it a spin soon.

from Amazon. I can hardly wait; I sure hope I'm not done in by over-antici-----pation. Great price - $10.99US. I also ordered Subterranea by IQ at the same time. (been looking for this one from IQ for several months; has been OOS at Amazon for that long)

Deadwing is mixed LOUD. This was very evident as the next CD I played was noticably quieter. And really bright on my upstairs system. I fear that some compression was used.

Anyway, I'll give it a listen on the basement rig and see how it goes there.

So far I'm really enjoying the music save for the overall brightness which may or may not be the fault of the mix. The basement rig is a nicer setup anyhow.

Yeah, but MFSL CD's only peak out at about 60%. -ish. So they're wasting almost a bit.

J/K...I love my MFSL CD's.

Can't stop listening to this CD, took about 4 times around, now it's stuck in my head all day long. Love every song but the title track; "Start of something beautiful" has a great hook on the bass line. One of the best PT CD's since Stupid Dream.
