So what do you use for your DIY Sub and how satisfied are you with your purchase?

After the urgings of one Mr. P. O'Neal, I too have gone with a Dayton 15" Quatro/240 watt plate amp combo...
Can't wait till the plate amp arrives.

I've also built my parents the Dayton 12" Ttianic MKIII sub kit. That thing was dynamite and walked all over my PW-2200 in sound quality (The PW-2200 might have been better above 110 dB, but I'll never know now, I don't listen that loud, and you shouldn't either!).

I have a Adire Audio Tempest with 2 PR-15 passive radiators in a SBB4 aligned enclosure that was on their website. I use a separate Onkyo amp (150x2) to power it.

Oh yeah...There is a BFD connected too.

I really think it is overkill but oh well....especially since I live in an apartment. I have never really turned it up though

I can speak from experience since I have done both. I have learned that you do not need a million watts (sarcasim intended) to drive a subwoofer. I have a 25watt plate amp driving an 8" Peerless sub in my bedroom and have never bottomed it out. Regards, Paul.

I use a Kiega 5230 Plate amp and an 18" subwoofer which I purchased from Madisound. I built a downfiring cube based on formulas derived from several DIY websites and a couple of speaker building books.
