Or should that be Friday Good Song of the Day thread? Completely different meaning and a little extra pressure. Hmm, I'll stick with the topic and avoid the added requirement.

As usually happens, I've been kind of addicted to my latest comp so that's just about all that I've been listening to in the last week. But I always sit up and take notice when the third track starts cause I love the sound of Woven Hand. And his other band, 16 Horsepower. Woven Hand gives David Edwards a chance to get even more religious than normal in his lyrics, but it doesn't really get in the way for me because the sound and the lyrics are so compelling. The song on the comp is from the self-titled debut and is called "Blue Pail Fever", and I don't know what that means, but that first chorus is so great....

drift like sleep
into the hotel montana
lay low for thy names sake
el matador louisiana

Just nails me every time I hear it. You got a Good Friday one?

frozen prayer upon my lips
inside the blood runs hot
he was reviled
yet he reviled not

I'm going with "The Naming Of Things" for one very good reason ('cause it's currently playing ;) )

A little slice of cheese for all y'all...

I'll pick Elvis's version of In the Ghetto since it came on as I was driving through the ghetto on my way to work this morning.

The mysterious production of Easter eggs? You must have today off, eh? Every Friday? Every other Friday? Just Good Friday? Any good Friday beers in the forecast?

Since I'm still on my Zutons kick, I'm gonna go with a tie, both from the same album. You Will You Won't is a good ol' rock and roll tune and definately gets the head nodding (not quite banging, Dusty, but a nod is still good). Confusion is a ballad of sorts. It's an apology for leading someone on and then dumping her. Nice melody.

Both have been stuck in my head all week and must be declared my Good Friday Song, or my Friday Good Song. Either one works for me. ;)

I'm going with "Happiness" from Built to Spill, because it is playing right now, and because I'm really digging the slippery slide-guitars on it. Wait...song just changed. "Happy" by the Rolling Stones. (Obviously I'm playing alphabetically today, not shuffling.) Another good one with greasy slide guitar. I'm definitely in a happy mood now.

Unless I'm severely mistaken, I think "Harborcoat" is next up. Yea!

/happy weekend to all!

Hey, when's there gonna be a new Built To Spill album? I thought they had one ready. Anyone heard? I want it now! Are they still with the WB?

Every Friday is good for me :) If I can't get it done M-Th in 48 hours that's just a sign from above that I need to hire me another guy for my crew. Now only if I could get my boss to spend some money . . .

Good Friday beer? I've been on a St. Pauli Grrl kick for about the last month and got another case of it yesterday after work. Guess I'll try something else next time. Maybe some DAB or Beck's or something new.

BTW, I'm changing my song to "MX Missiles" because I can! :)

those that will judge will
say you're aloof
but you know the truth is a seed
you know what you need
is a conflagration
cause when I see your blood
and the bits of your broken tooth
it gives me the proof that I need
it's the proof that you bleed
and it's a revelation
it's a revelation

I thought you were a life-sized paper doll
propped up in the hardware store
propped up on the front lawn watching the parade
of those legionnaires with 2" by 4"s
marching off to wars

I didn't know what you were made of
color of your blood, what you're afraid of
are you made of calcium or are you carbon based
cause if you're made of calcium I'll have to take a taste
calcium is deadly, but tender to the tooth
but it's one sure-fire way to know if you're mx-missile proof
or if you're just aloof

and you were in the ground in late November
though the leaves and earth were damp
did you think they would remember
how you almost made state champ
and when you're running for the game against Alfonsus
and you fell upon the ground and chipped your tooth
that might really have surprised us
to learn that maybe you weren't really mx-missiles proof

Good question. I totally lost track of them since Martsch's solo disc. I know nothing, but now I'm as curious as you.

Anyone? Anyone?

Squirrel Nut Zippers, "Hell"

...In the afterlife
You could be headed for the serious strife
Now you make the scene all day
But tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay...

'cause I been watching "Dead Like Me", and it's stuck in my head.

...gets the head nodding (not quite banging, Dusty, but a nod is still good).Well, when you get around to listening to Mars Volta, you'll see what I mean. I'm familiar with Franz Ferdinand, and you mentioned that the Zutons tickle a similar bone, and there's nothing wrong with that, but...well, it's like going from synthpop to heavy metal.
