Today's NY Times has a great article on Pat Metheny. But, rather than focus on his music, the interviewer asked Metheny to bring in samples of music that affected him. So, he brought some tracks into a studio and the interview was done while the music was playing. Some great insights into what makes Pat tick musically, but also some great stuff about other artists like Sonny Rollins, Wes Montgomery, and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Here's the link to the article and the CDs that played during the interview.

SONNY ROLLINS AND COLEMAN HAWKINS (WITH PAUL BLEY): "All the Things You Are," from "Sonny Meets Hawk!" (RCA/BMG).

MILES DAVIS: "Seven Steps to Heaven," from "The Complete Concert 1964: My Funny Valentine and Four & More" (Sony Legacy).

GLENN GOULD: Bach's Fugue No. 22 in B-Flat Minor (BWV 867) from "The Well-Tempered Clavier" Book I. (Sony Classical), two CD's.

ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM: "Passarim," from "Passarim" (Verve).
