    New member, turntabel info needed

Hello, I posted in the general section and they sent me here...so here goes.

I have an expensive but old vinyl collection just getting dusty. My two turntables are in need of more repair than it is worth, a dual that should have been shot at birth and a thorens that I bought on ebay and got the worse end of the deal on...so I was looking around and noticed a StantonT.50X for a modest price. Since I will be using an imic and putting these albums on my hard drive and then making cd's I really do not want to get into a very expensive turntable as once I complete my mission I will probably not use it again..but one never knows. I know nothing about this or other inexpensive tables, so any info will be appreciated.

The Stanton T.50X should do OK for archiving to CD.
Here is a good preamp unit that works well for doing just that.

And can be found for 59.99: http://www.kabusa.com/PMX01.HTM

Brandon, I believe my Arcam has a pre-amp, so I don't need one.....I have used an old thorens with it without problem..it has a phono selection on it.

Is there better than I can do for the money than the Stanton, I also saw some gemini's but I am so out of the loop, Technics, sony???

    Thanks for the reply

    Hello Joel,
For the price of the Stanton at $99.99 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...5385/src=00633
I dont think you will find anything better in that price range.
    It will do fine.
Do not forget that you will need to get a cartridge because the T.50X doesnot come with one.

Brandon, thanks...I have an almost new ortofon super OM so I am set there....

Now that I am doing some research I wonder if I should look for a nice used Music Hall or somthing like that, but I don't know where to start my search. One day I may want to play my vinyl again more often than I think now, but I don't want to go over board on a whim.

    Thanks

    Music Hall offers good tables.
And I guess if you can find one in that price range (99.99) that would be great.
Did you notice that Musicians Friend offers free shipping for that unit?
With no Tax and free shipping and for 8.75 more you can get a heck of an extended warranty that even covers normal wear & tear

I think once you play your records again you will want to play them all the time there are plenty of online record stores now were you can find a lot of new vinyl.

What ever your decision is Im sure it will be the right desision.
