(nothing really 'sweet' about it, rather a functional design at the moment, waiting to be worked out properly when time allows)

The RB-301 has a Denon DL-304 on it, and the SME has got a modded Denon DL-103 with Midas body on it



The finished product will be a steel-bamboo ply-steel sandwich (top & bottom steel), and a way better finish, but school killing me though, so the finished product will be something for in the summer vacation

Beats the crap out of my Luxman tt, in fact, I'd even think it'd give some of the clearaudio's & transrotors a run for the money...

It spins like a dream indeed, the idler mechanism is set up pretty well set up now, almost completely quiet, but the better materials & better isolation will solve this too.

Sound is very dynamic, very 'alive', with deep & clear lows, it's not boomy at all, with great slam. The mids are slightly "colored"; well, coloration is pretty vague, it keeps the vintage character of the original lenco.
the highs are soft and detailed, never bright.
the background is pretty dark, great soundstage.

I simply love the timing & rythm of a decent Idler, it comes out here pretty good too.

It's not perfect though, compare it to a modern 'high class' clearaudio, or the like, and you'll find it's more refined, it's more neutral. If you look for the perfect sound, you won't like this...

It's very pleasant to listen too, it just makes the music come alive.

Cool project! I have to smile seeing such interest in great vintage stuff - with a modern twist. I started with an L-75A back in '72 and replaced it with a SME 3009 / SL110 in '75. I still use a SME in the garage system.

Nonsense Bert. Many people are dead set against "coloured" sound, but don't realise that some neutral systems are boring as hell. If colour exists in the right areas, I don't mind one bit as it can make the music lively and exciting.

I agree with the others, don't be so modest.

Musicians will play with greater intensity when they are "feeling" the music, in a live setting. This can result in a stronger attack with a possible mistake thrown in. I would prefer this outcome to a musician who is a pylon for a performance, and plays every note with the same consistency.

This is how I see the audio dilema of neutrality. Like the musician, we don't want our gear to venture to far from proper. BUT....we do want it to perform with a bit of intensity where required.

no personal experience, these things are rare as hell here, but I've been drooling over them

I've been dreaming of a Eico integrated, for a small(ish) tube & horn or single driver project, never found one so far, oh well, whatever happens in the future

I've read alot about them though, so if there are any questions, I'd be happy to help...

btw, does it have all the original tubes (I believe the originals were mullards, and if so, you'll be one happy camper )

The L75 is a wonderful thing, a bit rough when you don't tweak it, but once you've done that

if you ever happen to come across one in a good state, and you want to do some DIY, it's the way to go IMHO. I'd love to try a Garrard 301 too in the future, but I'm happy too now

I certainly hope to still know you all if that would ever happen, but I think production models are a dream that is still far from becoming reality

(the finished model will hopefully look more like a production model though )

Yes, that's the kicker. All original tubes. The seller is a vintage tube buff. He has re-capped it entirely and replaced resistors along some of the paths. I have been told as long as the power transformer is in good order, the fidelity is fantstic. I'm quite excited to tell you the truth. The Eico in front of the Golden Tube should be a mid range dream come true.
