Rarest LPs in your Collection.

For those who been collecting LPs from past and present, I think there might be few that indeed be a collector items and/or rare. This might be time to show it off

I have two LPs that might be consider rare and collector item. The first one would be 12" Michael Jackson’s Thriller LP picture disc, featuring a different full colour image of Michael on each side of LP itself with transparent sleeve/cover. I have not opened it since got it back in late 80s and still have store’s seal on it.




The second would be an LP from 1958 (50 years old in stereo) which I ran cross in used shop. Although slightly worn, but it still in pretty good shape. The LP is Port Said, with english liner note.

Don't have any pictures Smokey (especially not like that Port Said cover), but I own the Beatles White Album - original Green Apple label. My sister bought it new when me and my brothers pooled our allowances together. It's not playable anymore but I'll never let it go anyway.

Thanks Rich. Don't think I ever let go of my LPs either, so hold on to that album.

I got most of my LPs during transition from CD to LP which was in full swing in late 80s and price of new LPs were an all time low (mostly $3.99). Most of them are in mint condition as I only played them once and some are still sealed.

They are a great conversation piece (albiet showing one's age ).

I'm not really sure what would be classified as rare. I have a Louie Armstrong soundtrack to Pennies From Heaven that is mono and sounds really good. I don't plan to keep them but I currently have a couple Lenny Bruce which I've been told could be worth $50.00 to $100.00 depending on condition. I also have albums from bands that didn't make it very big that could be worth something, or nothing. Like

I don't plan to keep them but I currently have a couple Lenny Bruce which I've been told could be worth $50.00 to $100.00 depending on condition. I also have albums from bands that didn't make it very big that could be worth something, or nothing. Like

I have never heard some of albums you mentioned. Ebay might good pace to check to see if they are worth anything. The Thriller album I mentioned, goes about $50-100 on Ebay. But I am not selling

Here's one for ya...I have a copy of "The Human Zoo" on Accent Records, recorded in 1968. It's not the greatest album in the world, but since there were only 100 copies printed, it's now selling on the European rare record markets for about $1000 U.S. It's a good thing that it wasn't a hit...there would have been thousands of copies pressed, and it probably wouldn't be worth anything now.

100 copies is not alot to to go around. That must have been a promotional album.

I was once a big fan of Martin Denny, whose first big hit, "Quiet Village" snared me. I bought about 14 of his records (almost all mono) and, aside from the "exotic" music on them, all had a wonderful cover, usually with a delicious model (whose name was Sandra Warner) in various stages of undress. I threw all of them out (along with a few hundred others) on a move years back, but kept just one": "Primitiva," not because of the music, which today is really hokey with all the silly animal calls and screeches, but because Sandra Warner looks so enticing sitting in a tropical pool with most of her clothing falling off her upper body. I really liked this album cover when I bought it in 1959 (I was all of 14 at the time), and still get a kick out of it.

I read recently that the late Martin Denny's albums now sell for about $40 each. Too bad for me...

100 copies is not alot to to go around. That must have been a promotional album.

Try googling "Redtelephone66" The Human Zoo. That will get you to a picture of the album.

You're right...it was a promotional album. Scott Seely of Accent Records printed 100 copies to send around to various record labels, hoping that somebody would want to pick it up. Not a single taker. Many of the copies went to the band members and their relatives. Some ended up in a 99 cent bin at a Thrifty drug store in Seattle, Washington. I would guess that less than half of the original 100 still exist, maybe a lot less.

Possibly desireable to some collectors would be my orginal-issue Carlos Kleiber Beethoven 5th Symphony LP. (My version has chrome metalic foil instead of plain white for the highlights -- cool.)

Since vinyl is of zero intrinsic value to me, I might try to flog this on eBay or the Gon. The real question is WTF am I doing in the Analog Room??

During the resurgence of exotica, lounge, etc. in the mid 90s, I used to find the Martin Denny albums regularly in flea markets and thrift stores though condition varied.

There are a few limited editions today that might be scarce a few years down the road. For his B-day, I bought my son the three 45rpm series of White Stripes Conqueror (Conquistador). Each is a different color vinyl (red, black and white) and comes with different artwork on the outside cover, different mini-posters and trading cards inside. Plus, the b-sides are different unreleased tracks and the a-sides have different versions of the album track.

I have an LP from the sixties called 'Supreme Psychedelic Underground' by Hell Preachers Incorporated.

I'd say 2 are fairly rough to come by...one is a first pressing of the first Howlin' Wolf album on Chess...found in a bin for $2.


The other would be an album called Darker Skratcher, a compilation put out by the Los Angeles Free Music Society with a bunch of experimental stuff augmented by oddball tracks by the likes of 45 Grave and others. Bought this back when it came out and I don't think they are easy to come across anymore.


Probably got some rare old hardcore records too, but I never really seem to have a handle on which ones are "rare" and which ones are just unknown crap put out in someone's garage. Got the first 4 Flesheaters albums...think some of those are fairly rare.
