Seriousley though-never put anything on the record. I use a VPI Record cleaning machine and even abused discs can sound decent. Only pays really when you smash the magic 1000.

Sorry about the remote I shall keep my eyes open and will sent the B.T.O back

    Peace Bernd
    Thanks, ditto.

A record shop down the street from me does appraisals and purchases of large collections. I was talking to the owner and he said alot of people think that their collection is worth something when it is just a pile of garbage. He will come out to their house and find dirt, water damage, mildew and bugs. "But I thought records were rare and valuable these days," they will invariably say. They don't even accept classical records anymore because of so many wild goose chases with no market for classical. Rock, jazz and blues are where the used record market is really at.

So Flo, it sounds like you already looked at the collection a bit, but take the advice offered and make sure the records are clean, even if with just a dry brush.

Also, bad recordings are notorious in vinyl. You get much less quality control than with CDs. I've only gotten one or two CD's over the years that had a manufacturing defect, but i average a dozen or so records per year with blatant manufacturing defects. That's just the bad pressings, off center holes, ect. Bad mastering and engineering is a whole different story.

I was going to ask him if he had ever been to a leather bar called the Eagle. He looks familiar.

    Hi,
That's really good advice. There are lots of bad records out there, but many diamonds. Part of the fun I guess.

    Peace

So this forum is good for learning something other than audio. Thanks

Bernd and the others that know me got it right, Black music here in europe is basically gangster rap or morons driving 100K plus cars rapping about how bad their life is. The rapper can be white, yellow, brown, purple or orange and noone here cares abou that. Here in europe and in germany are pretty much no racist or any kind of hatret anymore. After the second world war we keep a very very close eyes on those little guys and shut them down as soon as one opens his mouth. So if someone is looking for racism you might wanna turn your head towards the black majority who is currently without homes or food and no mayor assistence since the media has turned away from the now cold story and turned to the rich white folks in Florida. But dont get me started on that.

My term black music is not meant and never was meant as any kind of racist term. My political views are very much against any kind of discrimination of any kind. Unfortunalty most people defend themselves by attacking me on the past that germany has displayed which in my book is no worse or better then the things that happen in Afganistan, Iraq, Vietnam, Japan and Africa.

Back to my Turntable issue. The table and everything arived well and i spend some time setting it up. The first impressions where mixed to be honest. On some good recordings like

    Ludwig van Beethhoven
    Symphonie Nr.9
    Symphonie Nr.8
by the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Herbert Karajan and the pressing is from "Deutsche Grammophon"

the sound is very livelly and dynamic which a wide open stage which is very natural. There are some pops and craks here and there which are ok and dont bother me to much. On the other hand there are some recordings that are just plain horrible and cannot be listend to. Ofcourse its unfair to compare my digital setup which is very high resolution and dynamic to the entry level turntable. I am getting about 1500 records as a present in a week or so from a older gentlemen who has no more use for them, so after that i will try to move up the analog ladder. Properbly over Clearaudio with a Benz Mikro to something tubey like a Jolida or a audio research phono preamp. Still lots of work to do, but i have time.

    Cheers Flo
