Marantz's Finest Hour.

May I introduce, the Marantz TT 240. I couldn't find anything regarding Clearaudio's involvement on this one. Obviously they went with a more reputable company like Fisher Price perhaps. Here it is as I found it.



This thing is simply shameful. Gives whole new meaning to BPC. But you're probably wondering why I have it...

Some of you may recall my curbside haul of amps. This was with it. It requires a P-mount cart, so it's sat in the closet. I stopped into my local hifi shop today, and they gifted me a used Audio Technica 90CD. It has an adaptor for standard use, but being a conical, I doubt I'll use it. If anything I'll leave it on this monstrosity and sell it on Kijiji.



What's the sound of a man typing? I am hearing it right now, for the first time in my life. It's spinning on my comp desk and as I type, the pounding is audible. Just brutal. Also, even after a cleaning, the direct drive is all over the place. No quartz lock here. Makes ya appreciate Technics. Hell my belt driven Pioneer puts this to shame.

Anyhow, thought you guys would get a kick out of this relic.

They made some classic CDPs like the CD-63SE. Guess we know where the research budget went.

all in all, not a bad tt. it would give a beginning 'phile a decent start into analog. there are a few pretty good pmount carts around.

i have an old technics pmount tt that will get some neophite going on LPs one day. i am just waiting for the right person and time.

Actually Tommy, I threw the adaptor on the cart and mounted it onto the SL-Q2. For it's price range it's a nice sounding cart. Sonically I would say competitive with the OM-10. Surprising...

As co-creators of the redbook CD, I guess Philips's research is sort of legendary. I wonder if they built that turntable. Before the Philips era, Marantz turntables were made by CEC, as far as I know.

the AT adaptors are WAY better than the styrene piece o crap that came on the original blue point. sumiko never marketed it as a pmount.

You have a 500C? These amps are hugely sought after man. This is probably one of the finest vintage amplifiers around from virtually everyone who loves vintage kit.

Not only do I have one, but I paid; $0.00 for it. It was dumpster fodder.

For $320 my tech re-capped it and installed a fresh set of 7591A EH output tubes. The preamp/tuner/phono tubes all checked out OK are original 1964 vintage.

With my 70's vintage EPI180's the thing rocks the house. 30wpc my ass!

Oh these Marantz units are the bomb! Really if you want to get better your going to have to move up to a Thorens or Linn if you want to stay old school.

That's it it's time to check the dumpster. There is a recycling center here and I find some good LP's but I never look at the electronics very closely. I think I will from now on.

Hello. If you are asking about the model I posted, I have since sold the cart and deck to someone looking to get back into vinyl. For both I got $50, if that's any indicator. The table would actually spin "accurately", at least according to the strobe. It wasn't quartz locked, so everytime you turned the thing on, you would have to do slight pitch adjustments to dial in the speed. I cleaned everything inside, and still this was the scenario.

If the cart that comes with the table is what's making up the higher price, I still say no deal because you don't want even a half decent cart on a table like this.

I would recommend looking at Pioneer's old 500 series tables, PL518 and such. Reliable spinners which are easy to maintain.
