It's lit Tommy, just too dim for certain occasions. I have stacked my 2 racks. Perhaps you haven't noticed, but I have the Golden Tube running now. You can read the thread of the same name for my thoughts...

Perhaps you didn't see my funky new weight. I made it myself with steel and painted it red. It weighs 1.25 Kg...

    Nice Pics Poppa.

Placing a lamp over my TT is something I've been meaning to do for years, but I've been spending that cash on audio instead.
I hate to get off the subject, but what speakers are those?

Kudos for placing heavy records at the bottom of your rack. It's one of the easiest ways to reduce feedback.

    nice red weight
but i prefer clamps that dont weigh much.

i got one of the folowing for $50usd :

my other is a sota reflex, not light but very effective. the orsonic is a reflex as well. my planamax from france is the lightest and also very effective.

i think weights will shorten the life of the bearings.

I was using a nice budget clamp until I made a small, light weight. I immediately noticed a difference. That original weight was around 200g. My direct drive is a workhorse and can handle quite a bit, however, I won't exceed 3 lbs. I am at about 2.75 lbs right now.

As far as the bearing is concerned, you could very well be right. This assessment is situational though, and would change from table to table. As I said, the SL-Q2 is a robust table and for what it lacks in sonic appeal, it makes up in solid, sturdy design. Assuming Technics put in a reasonable, sealed bearing, I would think the load presented by a weight wouldn't be too detrimental. I probably should open it up and verify the bearing in question.

Aside from this Tommy, I plan to part ways with this table before the bearing gives out. Hopefully soon.

They are Sound Dynamics 1200 SMT. There are details in this thread...http://forums.audioreview.com/speakers/sound-dynamics-1200-smt-32743.html.

As I'm sure you know, these were made by API back in it's heyday. I bought them for a song. They're mega efficient and push quite a bit of air. Overall, they have a nice sweet sound. They are detailed in the highs and high mids. The tweeters have volume controls. Obviously they aren't the greatest speaker ever made but I'm enjoying them and doubt I'll ever get rid of them.

I bought these as an ultra affordable "bridge" set. I am almost certain Tektons are in my near future, unless my audition of Magnepan 1.6 at Feanor's goes well. If so, it could very well be MMG's for Chubbs. I have chatted with several Golden Tube owners who swear by Maggies...

I am between their open baffle and standard full range design.

Poppa C, nice set up - I like the manequin head with the headphones and those racks look uber cool and sturdy. I love seeing other folks set up pictures - thanks for posting. Everytime I try to upload photos it says I exceed the maximum something or other for posting - ARRGH!

Try posting to your Photo Gallery. It does not have a size limitation.
Go to this link http://gallery.audioreview.com/, then click on "Upload Photos" right under the Log Out button.
Then post the link of your picture from your photo album.

Nice setup on the TT Pops! I love the style on your platter - looks heavy! And do I see a Bronze 2M on the side? Big difference compared to the Red??

Thanks. No, the box for the 2M series is the same for each. Each side contains a picture of a different stylus. Red, Blue, etc... I have the Red. The other box came to me with an OMB-10 as it was an upgrade for a friend, he bought the Blue. The Blue is a huge difference, I can imagine from Red to Bronze would be nuts.

There's something in the way, that light moves noob, attracts me like no other lamp...is your Abbey Road original? I have 3 copies of that album...

BTW, since when is the MH on top of the Marantz?

I think I'm going to have to eventually come up with a new arrangement..not sure. Having two complete audio systems in this one spot has caused me to run out of space. There are components under every bed in the house. Still wondering what to do with my Yamaha CR-1040.

I've tried a few different combinations but it comes down to too many things needing to be on top. Having the Music Hall on top of the Marantz is what fits best, but if I ever get a Rega I'll probably just get the Rega wall shelf, too. I'm considering removing some furniture from this room so I can have two audio walls...one system on the south wall and one on the west.

That Abbey Road is the current re-issue. I don't have an Apple version, but maybe I'll do a sound comparison between it and my Apple Hey Jude.

Nice location. That would be only in the CDP dept. Funny you mentioned the shelf. My rack is lacking in proper space for the TT.

The bottom 2 shelves I designed for vinyl. They would fit the TT w/ dust cover but I would have to crouch down to use it. Secondly, it puts it in a vulnerable spot in terms of the kids. Last thing I need is my boy bouncing a ball onto the TT. It would make our friendship awkward if I was a child murderer so I'd just as soon avoid it.

I would like the TT more accesible but also, more in view. Kind of a vanity need.

I bought 2 brackets and cut an MDF shelf but I'm finding the cords are limiting where I can put it. I was going to ask you about the Rega shelf in terms of what makes it tick. Is there something in the design that deters vibration and such? Where do they suggest it be located?

Once I've got the Realistic squared away, this will be my next project.

The shelf under my MMF-5 is on Vibrapods and hockey pucks, but Rega goes for lightness and rigidity. I believe the goal is to dissipate vibration quickly, rather than to try to absorb it.

Poppa C - How do I add the four (crappy) Photos I just managed to add to my member gallery?

To add photos, paste the image url into your message with img in brackets before it and /img in brackets after it.

    I give up!
I don't know where to find the stupid URL address. It should be easier to copy a stupid photo from the member gallery into a stupid reply on one of these stupid forums. Well, if anyone wants to look at my stupid pictures, go to the stupid gallery. Yes, I know. I am stupid.

Oops...I told you wrong. The gallery doesn't give the URL of the actual picture...only the URL of the gallery page. You have to go to the photo's Properties to find the URL of the actual photo. I like Flickr better...poppachubby uses it, too.
