    here is my new LP player....looking for info

    so i actually won the auction and paid an extra $15 for packaging so hopefully she'll arrive unharmed. I cannot find any information on this brand (Parasound).
    It comes with a new cartriage and belt so i feel it was a sound investment. I just want to hear my old LPs again....not audiophile quality.

    I don't know anything about this TT, but Parasound is amaker of quality amps, I would suspect that the TT is also a quality unit.

    Good luck!

    Oh, after looking at the listing on Ebay, I saw another TT that my buddy has;

    thanks Geoff, i'm excited about the purchase. Any advise on cleaning some old LPs. They have been stored in a indoor closet, but not played since the 80s.

    Parasound's known for making some very nice and affordable amps/preamps. Over the years, they've marketed other accessories as well, but I've never seen their label on any turntables.

    In looking over the information and photos that you linked to, I suspect that this turntable is a rebadged Technics. Just the fact that the unit uses a P-mount Technics cartridge is a giveaway , and the look of that tonearm, the dustcover, and the control layout are also vintage Technics design. I would upgrade the cartridge immediately, and you should probably order one before the thing arrives.

    The P-mount headshell unfortunately limits your cartridge options to the likes of Grado, Ortofon, and Audio Technica. Decent options, but still limited.

    Grado is very well regarded and if that Parasound turntable indeed is a Technics, the Grados should work (Grados are suceptible to noise on certain turntables). I believe their entire Prestige series has P-mount versions available.

    Ortofon also makes a P-mounted version of its OM series cartridges. The advantage of the Ortofon is that you can upgrade the cartridge by just switching out the stylus, as the entire OM series (3,5,10,20,30, and 40) uses the same cartridge body. If you choose to go with the Ortofon OMP cartridge, I would order the OMP-10 and a separate Stylus 20. (the step up in sound quality between the 10 and the 20 is very audible) That will cost you about the same amount and give you a spare stylus that you can use on worn or especially dirty records.

    Audio Technica uses a "universal" mount that fits both P-mount and 1/2" mount headshells on a lot of their cartridges, but I believe that their higher end models are strictly 1/2" mount.
