Question about older PS Audio preamp

Does anybody know the difference between the 4.5 & 4.6 preamps (1986-ish?). How good was the phono stage? Did they include MC support? Thanks.

I have the older IVH, with the seperate high voltage section. I keep it because I've yet to hear a better passive section from ANY preamp. The phono section is also top notch, but I've only used it rarely. It came with a whole set of resistors to change the impedence.
