quad 99 power amp

I was thinking of purchasing this and as a newbie was wondering do i need another amp or will this work with just a cd player?

Are you asking if you need a preamp? That depends on how many sources you plan to you use and your cd player. If you are just planning on using the cd player, you can plug that directly into the amp as long as it has enough gain (preferably variable). If it doesn't, you'll need to get an active preamp (the matching Quad is purported to be quite nice).
