    Onkyo M504....HELP!!!
I just got home from work...it's 4 am.....my new Onkyo M504 was delivered while I was away. I open it...it's beautiful....and the first thing I do is plug it in and hit the power button!! The needles pegged to the right at 500 watts......no servo light came on. Mind you I had nothing plugged into the amp yet! Online manual says...NO..NO!! So I turn it off...hook up my p 306 preamp and cd player.....turned on the pre first...then the amp.....needles pegged to far right again...no servo light...no sound.

Did I do something horribly wrong?

Something is shorting in the amp. I would take it to a Onkyo service center and see if they can do something. The amp is a straight forward design that most folks can fix. I have three of these, and there is a shop right in my area where a guy fixes them.

Hi - did you get your M-504 fixed? I read about a similar problem on another forum, and it sounds like the protection circuit has failed.

I am interested to know if you found out what the problem was.

My tech said that a circuit board had cracked during shipping......he resoldered a few things....replaced the meter lights and returned it in 24 hours.....148.00......which I promptly filed a claim against DHL for reimbursement. My tech even gave me a letterhead stating the damage!

Sir Terrence the Terrible - You have a M-508 running a sub? Man, I hope your house has a concrete foundition :)

I have 2 M-504's. I have one running a Klipsch kp-115-sw subwoofer. One channel of the input signal is inverted using a Sonance SM-1 Stereo To Mono Bridging Adapter, simaliar to what a Yamaha C-80/85 will do with the inverted outs. The M-504 meters to not peg the same when the signal is mono. You think the would be equal for both channels.

I can't post links, so go to ebay and search on this:

    "Replacement lamp for Onkyo M 504 506RS 508 510 5030 5060 5090 VU meters"

you'll find the direct replacement lamps for the VU meters. cheers.

This was a several year old thread so I think the OP has moved on.
