New Preamp

I just bought the Van Alstine tube Hybrid Ultra Preamp.
I returned his Ultra Hybrid DAC. The reason for this was that we are buying new furniture in our listening room and I had to move my Magnepans closer together away from the corners of the room so bass dropped off considerably but imaging and sound stage improved.

The preamp offers more bass than the DAC with the same over all sound as the DAC. The DAC does offer a little more detail than my 840c however. Some time next year I will purchase the DAC again or purchase the Marantz SA8003 SACDP.

I don't doubt it's a very nice unit. And somehow I'm not surprised you opted to go first for the preamp vs. the DAC.

I only use my sub for HT use. The Maggies put out enough bass for me when they were closer to the corners of the room. With the new preamp they put out plenty of bass. The preamp of my Adcom HTR was just so-so in 2ch mode.
