    Kenwood VS Harman/Kardon
Which is the better Surround Sound Receiver NO plans for an upgrade just want your opinions and see what you guys, girls would use
    Harman/Kardon AVR-55 (Dolby Digital)
    Kenwood 107VR (Dolby Prologic)
Kenwood VR-309 Dolby Digital, Digital DTS Surround
    Yamaha RX-V363
The Yamaha is an Entry Level Receiver I paid about 219.00 at Bestbuy in 2008. I went in there because I thought I was getting a Kenwood as this was my original plan.
The Kenwood VR-309 appears to be their TOTL Model. In my opinion I would classify the Kenwood 107VR as an Entry Level Receiver too. I don't know about the Harman/Kardon.

I've never used any of those but based on past experience I would choose the HK. If I owned all of them the one I'd use would probably be the one that was most compatible with today's technology which would most likely be the one with multichannel analog inputs. You'd have to go direct to TV with any of them if using HDTV. If the Yamaha has a HDMI video connection it isn't fully functionable.

I've heard from others as well HK didn't make the transition to HT very well, it's a shame. Their receivers we sold and used in the 80's were excellent.

Not sure of others experience with HK HT receivers. But my AVR 146 bottom feeder has been loyaly running for about 4 years. And sounds great. No lack in sound quality.

You are aware Kenwood hasn't had home audio on the market in quite some time? I've sold and used Kenwood. They made a decent product. There have been models that should have been more reliable. I rate them better than JVC, Sony or regular Pioneer.

There was a period where I did not respect Yamaha but recently some of their upper tier receivers have impressed me, especially the sound quality. I helped friends set up a couple Yamaha more entry level pieces and they have been good values. I was down on them when they followed Sony's lead and put HDMI on entry receivers that only carried video but not audio, stupid. I think most have realized the folly of that.

Denon typically has been consistent with good receivers. Marantz as well in recent years.

Onkyo has also been fairly consistent with good product. I favored their amp sections due to them being the most high current in the mass market league.

Receivers according to Mr P :)
