    Kenwood Basic c2
    Last year i bought a C2 preamp from one of my coworkers. It is missing the knob, and the feet.

    Is there any redeeming qualitys to the preamp. I still havent used it because it doesnt have a volume knob.

    I have been thinking of making one out of wood. But funds have been scarce lately. So again any redeeming quality to this thing?

    The C-2 is a pretty decent preamp that is well regarded by the vintage audio community. Check out AudioKarma for discussions on this preamp. You should be able to find a replacement knob that will fit, and feet from Mouser Electronics. Radio Shack also has adhesive-backed rubber feet that I have used as replacements under various components, and for DIY projects.

    Yes! Yes!! and Yes!!!

    Great pre-amp with a highly regarded phono section. I love my C2 and my 2 C-1's. If you can try and match it with any of the Kenwood Basic amps or the Kenwood KM line of amps. If you are good enough to make one from wood go for it but you might want to go down to a local thrift and see if you can grab a volume knob from a cheap BPC unit.

    thanks for all your responses. Its been a while since ive posted here. Pretty close to a year. Ive frequented the AK forums. I thought that i would post here and visit here for a while.

    I still need to clean out the switches. I think i will stick with the wood route on this volume knob. And thanks for the tip on the stick on rubber feet glen. It may be a few weeks till i can scrap up a knob out of wood. Any ideas on a good grained wood, that will make for a good Peice?

    I'd suggest maple for the wood if you want to get it really smooth. I suppose ash would be good if you want to see the grain. I have a C2. It's certainly a keeper. I found feet for my Adcom down at my local Ace hardware for maybe 2 or 3 bucks...can't remember for sure. You could also find upgrade feet at the Herbie's site.

    That sounds like a fun project, BA! If you have a friend who knows how to turn a saw or whatever, I wonder what it would be like replacing all the knobs on the preamp with wood. Maybe this is an outrageous suggestion, but it would certainly spice it up a bit and it would bear your signature look....Then again, I just post here....

    When i get around to it, Ill post a thread about it. The biggest hurdle would be to find the correct sized cylinders to fit the knob positions. Then after that its just a matter of drilling the right sized hole for the shaft(ahem) And of course there would be some finish of some sort to help prevent any undue wear.
