    Denon CD player from GoodWill....

    Hello everybody,

Only to give Denon some credits for that time. Today, I got a Denon DCD-660 cd player in 9 bucks from a local goodwill. The unit is from 1990, made in Japan and 20 bits and is in mint condition. Well, let me say I connected it to one of my bedroom systems and got impressed by it. I never thought a 1990 cd player could sound like this. It plays as well as my Nad C-541 and the transport looks heavy an extremely silent. I have read some very good reviews of Yamaha, Onkyo integra and some other players from 1990's but didn't know Denon was in that league. Very well built unit to be from 1990.
P/S. Guys, I know most of you have been around this hobby for years. What do you think were the best japanese cd players from 1990's..Let say 18 or 20 bit players.
    Thanks,
    Jorge.

Where did you see it was 20 bit? To my knowledge 20 bit wasn't around until almost 2000. Unless that model number stayed the same for many years and has newer versions.

I saw a 660 for sale and the seller's description showed 20 bit/8x over sampling, very interesting. Your unit should have a pitch control as well.

Yes, it has pitch control. I was looking to a web site about cd players which mention many quality cd players from 1989 begun to use 20 bit converters. So, since 1989 they are using 20 bit.

Congrats on your pick-up. The older Denon's do seem to be a cut above many of the players from that era. Great sound and build IMO. I have a 1500 and a 1800 that are in use in two of my systems that I picked up at ridiculously low prices at the thrifts. If you are interested in the owner's manual but can't find it you may want to contact Denon. They sent me a copy of the owner's manual for free when I asked for it.
