    whats wrong with my reciever

    I was listening to my stereo the other day and all of the sudden it was like it got a ton of power.And it has been like that ever since that day. Is there something wrong with my reciever should i unhook my speakers. Will this cause damage to my speakers.

    All of a sudden it got a ton of power? Did you push the loudness button? Did you have the tape2/monitor button turned on?

    The loudness was already on. It doesnt have a monitor button it has a tape two button on it but it wasnt on.

    it's possible your contacts got dirty enough that it the volume pot isn't working right anymore. do you hear any static when you turn any of the knobs? A good cleaning might be in order.

    Bad transformers, when going bad, will sometimes act that way. it's usually more active than what you describe though.

    It could damage your speakers if it switches from soft to loud, but if it doesn't go any louder you should be ok.

    I dont know what it might be it dosnt do that on the other chanel.
