good pre amp for MacIntosh MC 250
    Hi,
I have a beautiful MacIntosh MC 250 that I have been using a Marantz receivers pre amp section for the mac 250, but I really want a dedicated pre amp for the mac. I'm kinda on a budget, but I know that you get what you pay for, so...

Basically, I'm asking for advice. I want to get a good match up for my amp, something that looks good next to it, and will enhance the sound and give me good control. I also have alot of vintage stuff that I could maybe trade, or just straight up buy a pre amp.

All of your input would be greatly appreciated. And I'm still looking for a Klipsch RB-5 grill so that I can sell them.

    Thanks,
    Father Time

FT, there's little doubt the best match for a collector's and/or an esthetic point of view is McIntosh preamp of the same vintage as the MC250.

The ideal choices would be either:
    • The C26 ...

    • Or the C28 ...

Check out Brener's Site, (here), or Roger Russell, (here), for info.

It shouldn't be too hard to find one. Here are a couple: one on Audiogon, the other on eBay:
And Audio Classics, a very reputable vendor, has several for sale, see ... http://www.audioclassics.com/detail....il=C28&nav=cat

I enjoy my inexpensive hand built Aric Audio tube preamp ( $360 ) but who knows how it would match up with your Mc? It would be an improvement over the Marantz.

    Hey Poultrygeist,
Can you send me some info on your preamp? Like maybe some photos? I am on the hunt for a compatible preamp. Would like a macintosh c26 or 28, and if someone has one, send me a fair price as I am motivated to get er done.
But I also really want to get into some tube units, so I am very interested in the one you mentioned. Can you send me the specs etc... My e-mail is: randman53@hotmail.com.

Also looking to sell a set of really nice (Except for one of the grills), Klipsch RB-5's for maybe around $300 or so. The one grill is fixable, and the speakers and boxes are in exc condition and sound amazing. I have lots more stuff vintage 70's receivers and speakers, etc... Some restored and mint, some not yet gone through. Sansui, Pioneer, Akai, Fisher, Marantz, Yamaha,etc... and lot's of speakers.
    Thanks,
    Father Time
