    Emotiva XPA vs UPA
    What is the difference between the XPA nad UPA amps at Emotiva, was looking around there web site for a compare button or something explaining it??
    Thinking about putting some added juice to my fronts and main speakers.
    Thanks for any help on this matter!!

    Power....

    The XPA series ranges from 200 watts per channel (XPA-5 & XPA 3) & 300 watts per channel (XPA-2) to 500 watts per channel (XPA-1 Monoblocks)... While the UPA series is 125 watts per channel (UPA-7, UPA-5 & UPA-2) & 200 watts per channel (UPA-1 Monoblocks)....

    The big difference is power. The UPAx2ch's is 125wpc at 8ohms and 185 wpc at 4ohms. The XPAx2ch is 300wpc at 8ohms and 500wpc at 4 ohms. So the XPA 2 is beefier and will be more dynamic. They both come in monoblock and multichannel versions.

    I was looking at those amps the other night, true it's power but what gets the XPA there is double the output devices and twice as large power supplies. So I'm assuming there is also a noticeable difference in sound quality. But I have yet to hear either. Which to buy would depend on associated gear, purpose (use), and always budget.

    Thats why the xpa will be more dynamic., because of double the out put devices and lager power supplies as well as greater current. Bass will be deeper, faster and effortless.
    Dynamics will be better with music like Classical. Van Alstine offers double die (double the Mosfet's) on their amps and they are much more dynamic and faster than their standard amps.

    Hello Madmax,
    I purchased the UPA-2, tried it out for a few days and then returned it for the XPA-2. Emotiva paid for the shipping to return the UPA. I only was out for shipping the UPA and XPA to myself.

    To me, the XPA had much better bass response and just sounded better. Also, it's nice to have an amplifier that I can run any speaker that I may upgrade to. It did a good job with my Magnepan 1.6's and now sounds increadably good with my Jamo C809's.

    If your strapped for cash, try out the UPA for 30 days and then if needed, do the upgrade to the XPA. Emotiva was very nice about the whole process.
