    Emotiva in my house
So, I received my Emotiva UMC-1 and XPA-3 a few days ago. So far, I think I like the setup.

UMC-1 - I like what it does. The processing seems clean and I like the functionality. It's a little slow on video switching, but that's about it for complaints. Finally I can assign video to my CD input, so I can still have TV on the screen while I listen to CD's. Setup was easy and very straight forward I thought.

XPA-3 - Clean and powerful. It's a really flat amplifier. I'm really used to amplifiers and receivers that either make things sound good or bad. I don't think this amp does either. Some of my older CD's sound exactly like that, older. Other newer stuff sounds amazing. I'm now a little unsure about what I really want out of an amplifier. Is it better to have something that actually makes most things sound "good" or should it JUST amplify.

Overall the system is a vast improvement over the Denon receiver I'd been using. It's nice not to have to turn your system up close to it's max. Some softer cable shows I actually had turned up to 0 db on the Denon. Now I don't think I'll be going much more than 50% on the Emo setup.

I've had them for years actually. They are a very nice small speaker. Like most of Totem's line up, they sound much bigger than they are and they have very nice detail. However, I will say, they really do not compare at all to my Tempo 6's.

Ok, so I replaced the cheap interconnects I was using with some BJC cables. System overall is much more alive now. I am much happier with the Emo purchase now! I knew I had to have been missing something.

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a UMC-1 purchase myself. I missed the Christmas $100 off sale. Emo is really good about sales, so waiting for the next one. The free shipping is a good deal. They've always been reasonable with shipping. My XPA-5 was only $25 to ship. At 81lbs shipping weight, that's a great deal. A pair of ERM-1 bookshelf speakers was only $10 to ship. Overall I've been very pleased with the XPA-5's and ERM-1's build quality and sound. Their cables are also well built and reasonable. Good company. Excellent value.
