    Denon 4802R or 5800

Hi,I have a 4802R right now and I'm thinking about trading for an older 5800.Would this be a wise move?I only listen to HT and not music, would the 5800 be a better sound for my paradigm reference system? Thanks in advance.

I dont see much difference to change. I think you have 7.1 channel and pre amp to 6.1 on the 5800. I twas state of the art in 01 but i would go forward, not backwards. You could pick up a BStock 3805 from Dakmart for $850 or so.

thanks for your advise.I think the 4802R is a better receiver than the 3805?I was just hearing all the talk about the 5800 being as close to seperates as you can get.I would love to spend the money for the 5803 but that's not an option for me right now.

Your most likly right. Only real diff is 3805 has DTS and yours has THX EX{i think thats the diff} You got a great Denon and would have to go abit for any real upgrade so sit on it and use it. Hell i just upgraded from a 3200 to a 2805. Wanta trade? LOL

thanks again,My system sounds great but I always have the bug to upgrade. My 4802R is only two months old and I'm already thinking about upgrading it.I have a chance to trade even for a 5800 but it's too far away to go audition.I would be going from 125watts to 170.I'm guessing the amps must be much better too.

Only way to hear much difference would be fron 125 to 250 and that would only be a few db.

    Denon 2805 / 985

Just a note to say that I have a Denon 2805 / 985 (the front says 2805). It has worked perfectly. I review DVDs for dvdfile.com and so I use many of the audio arrangements (DTS-ES 6.1, DD EX, DD 5.1, Pro-Logic IIx etc). I sometimes utilize 7.1 and enjoy it.

Be aware that this receiver was released to the public 06/01/2004 (per cnet.com's review), so it does not have HDMI or DVI connections. HDMI began being incorporated with receivers mostly starting in 2006.
