    211 Amp Suggestions

    Hi All -

Just curious what 211 amps you might have heard or are interested in. I'd be particularly curious about DIY or smaller 211 integrated amps.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Pardon my ignorance, aA, but what are "211 amps"?

Price range on different manufacturer might vary wildly with tubes - but 211 sounds super detailed and liquid on the top end with a fantastically clear mid range and solid low end that isn't slow, but isn't fast either.

FWIW, the 211's in the Melody AN211 you liked so much were Shuguang, so you don't need to spend a fortune necessarily.

I wonder what $700 upgrade tubes would make this magical amplifier sounds like. I'd go from goosebumps to having measles? (In a good way that is - I can't think of something bigger than goosebumps than measles, though it certainly isn't a consistent image.)

How about - I'd go from goosebumps to swanbumps?

lol, I'm not sure what kind of bumps you'd have....

It's worth noting that sometimes the extra money doesn't correlate directly to better sound and much of that cost is because of the scarcity of the other tubes. For that matter you could try Shuguang's upgraded levels like Black Treasure and Pavane. You can get the Pavane 211T's for $300-ish. TJ Full Music makes some 211's that have been tried out in the AN211 as well for around $425, but they don't glow. (btw, the Sophia's are probably rebadged TJ Full Music tubes, although that doesn't necessarily mean it's not a different design made just for them)

Trust you me, I'm familiar with the cost != quality. I'd definitely like to hear some different tubes in the AN211 but maybe at a later date. And tubes that don't glow aren't American!

...I really don't want to read more about your "bumps"...
So, I broke into the palace
With a sponge and a rusty spanner
She said : "Eh, I know you, and you cannot sing"
I said : "That's nothing - you should hear me play piano"
